Automobile manufacturer giant Maruti Suzuki has teased its upcoming new 4X4 SUV in India and gear heads are wondering if its Jimny. For the uninitiated, the largest Indian car manufacturer left automobile enthusiasts awestruck back in 2020 when it showed the Jimny SUV at the Auto Expo. Now, all reports indicate that the country will be welcoming the Indian-spec 4XV SUV from one of the most reliable automobile manufacturers. The SUV will be powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine and will come with the standard 5-speed manual transmission or the 4-speed automatic transmission options.

In the past few years, automobile manufacturers are increasing their portfolio with offering hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs (along with Mini SUVs). The numbers showcase an unsurprising trend of Indian consumers warming up to SUVs. According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) sales data, Maruti Suzuki sold as many as 1,23,168 SUV and MUVs in India and was trailing behind Hyundai. The South Korean manufacturer sold 1,27,173 units.

To give Hyundai a fight for its place, and to further establish its relevancy quotient for SUV lovers, Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce a new SUV soon.

A Mint report quoted a top official of Maruti Suzuki claiming that the company was in the evaluation process of the feasibility of launching Jimny in India. “As you may recall, we had shown this Jimny at the Auto Expo in February 2020, and we got some really nice response,” the top official added, as quoted by Mint.

Meanwhile, the spec-sheet of the 3-door Jimny has had car enthusiasts drool all over. The 3-door version comes with a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder K15B engine. The engine produces a horsepower of 101 bhp with 6,000 rotations per minute.

In terms of appearance, the Jimny will attract consumers that want to buy an old-school SUV. With its boxy frame and incredible ground clearance, the international version of Jimny has a relatively higher roof-line than its competitors.
