Over 10 lakh students registered for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), 2020. Out of these 10 lakh students, 4,82,770 appeared where only 761 cleared the first exam. The clearing rate of UPSC exams was like every year – below 0.002%. The results of the UPSC – Main Examination were declared on Friday last week.
The All India Ranks were dominated by engineers. Shubham Kumar, a IIT Bombay graduate secured the AIR 1. AIR 2 was secured by Jagarati Awasthi, an engineering student from MANIT Bhopal. The third all India rank was secured by Ankita Jain, a BTech student.
Meanwhile, Dr. Apala Mishra, the highest marks scorer in the UPSC interview secured AIR 9.

An India Today report gives an account of the fascinating interview that Apala Mishra gave and received highest marks in.
In the interview, she was asked some basic questions such as the meaning of her name, and her perspective of belonging from an Army background. She was also asked whether she knows the type of saree she was wearing and what the border of the saree signified.
Further, the panel of interviewers also asked her to recite a poem, and asked her opinion on literature.

In her interview with multiple media outlets, Dr. Mishra also shared insight about her career path. She said that her medical background served as an inspiration to look deeply at the healthcare system India has.
