The most beloved superstar of South cinema, Rajinikanth, was awarded the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 67th National Film Awards for his outstanding contribution and growth to the world of Indian Cinema held on October 25th.

The megastar marked his presence at the ceremony and his wife Latha, daughter, Soundarya, and son-in-law, Dhanush. After receiving the Award, he thanked the Central Government for his gratitude. He addressed the dignitaries, which included the Vice President Mr. M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Information Broadcasting, Mr. Anurag Thakur and Dr. L. Murugan, the Union Minister of State of Information and Broadcasting, and other eminent personalities.

He dedicated his Phalke Award to his Guru and mentor K Balachander, his brother Sathyanarayana Rao Gaikwad who was a fatherly figure to him, and his bus driver-friend from Karnataka, Raj Bahadur, who pushed him to enter the world of Cinema.

Background

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was instituted in the year 1969. The Award is the highest honour received by an artist in the field of Indian Cinema. The Phalke Award is presented every year at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organization set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

For 2021, this Award is bagged by our South Indian superstar Rajinikanth for his outstanding contribution to Cinema.

Rajinikanth Dedicates Award to Bus Driver Friend, Mentor

In his short speech, Rajinikanth dedicated the Award to his Guru and mentor and his first film director K Balachander and remembered him with gratitude. He also dedicated the award to his brother, who taught him morals and spiritual values. He remembered his longtime bus driver friend who encouraged him to enter the world of Cinema. He thanked all his directors, producers, distributors, co-artists, technicians, media, and the press. Lastly, he concluded by thanking his fans, saying he is nothing without his fans.

“They are the Gods who keep me living,” Sir Rajinikanth signed off.

Rajini’s Dada Saheb Phalke Award Was Postponed

The news of Rajinikanth receiving the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award was announced by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Javadekar in April 2021. The Directorate of the Film Festivals also wrote in his Twitter handle that “Rajinikanth will receive the Phalke Award for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema on 25th October.” The most prestigious Award for 2019 was to be announced in the year 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic situation.

Rajinikanth’s Upcoming Projects

Megastar Rajinikanth is all set to back with his action drama “Annaatthe,” which will hit the big screen this Deepawali. Rajinikanth decided to abandon himself from politics due to his health situation.

Nayanthara will once again share the screen space with Rajinikanth in this film. She has acted with Rajinikanth in the recently-released movie Darbar.
