Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar recently was heard saying – “Meri picture ko duba diya”, a reference to The Kashmir Files’ dominating performance at the box office. It should be noted that Kumar’s Bachchhan Paandey hasn’t fared well at the box office, thanks to all the attention that’s been currently drawn towards the Anupam Kher starring and Vivek Agnihotri directed The Kashmir Files.

Kumar’s statement came when he was visiting Bhopal for an event. “Vivek ji ne Kashmir Files banakar humara desh k ek bohot bade dardanak sach ko samne rakha hain. Ye film ek aisi bhet bannkar ayi, ye aur baat hain ki meri picture ko bhi dooba diya hain”, he was quoted saying in an India Today report.

Reportedly, the Kashmir Files has already crossed the Rs.200 crore mark at the box office while Bachchhan Paandey has minted just about Rs. 50.28 crores, after spending a week at the theaters. It should be noted that earlier the Hera Pheri actor had come in support of the film and had lauded Anupam Kher’s performance.

The Facts of the Matter

Rarely has this happened in the history of Bollywood that a film not only received overwhelmingly positive response from the masses, but also received appreciation from the country’s Prime Minister himself. The Kashmir Files, based on the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits that was followed by the insurgency, is soaring high at the box office and continues to create buzz every passing day.

Recently, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar gave a witty compliment to the film while making a reference to his own film not doing well. The actor was recently in Bhopal for an event and spoke about how The Kashmir Files overshadowed his own film Bachchhan Paandey.

“Meri Picture Duba Di…”: Akshay Kumar on The Kashmir Files

Kumar’s words of appreciation – which were caught on video – was first shared by The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri. “Vivek ji ne Kashmir Files banakar humara desh k ek bohot bade dardanak sach ko samne rakha hain. (Vivek ji has brought forward a painful truth of our country through Kashmir Files)”, Kumar said.

“Ye film ek aisi bhet bannkar ayi, ye aur baat hain ki meri picture ko bhi dooba diya hain (this film has come as a gift, and its a different thing that it has sunk my film)”, Kumar added, making a reference to the box-office performance of Bachchhan Paandey.

How The Kashmir Files and Minting Money

It should be noted that since its release, the Akshay Kumar starring film has minted an underwhelming Rs. 50.25 crores at the box-office. This is partly because of the wave of The Kashmir Files that is even giving S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR a run for its money. Akshay Kumar is known for starring in massy films that have often broken the Rs. 100 crore mark in about a week of its release.

Mob Forcefully Stopped Bachchhan Paandey Screening

Such is the dominance of this Vivek Agnihotri film that earlier in March, a mob in Odisha created a ruckus in a theater and forcibly stopped Bachchan Paandey. The video of the ruckus had gone viral on Twitter where a mob who wore saffron scarves intervening the screening of Bachchan Paandey and forcefully clearing the theater. The mob’s demands were simple enough – only The Kashmir Files must be played in the theater.
