Giving ‘work from home’ goals to many, a Meta employee has bought a studio apartment on a cruise ship that floats on the sea with 500 private rooms. The man’s idea, to see the world as the cruise ship wanders across the sea, and not miss a single day of work at Meta’s Reality Labs. The man, identified as Austin Wells, paid $300,000 (Rs 2.4 crore) to buy a 12-year lease on MV Narrative, a luxury cruise ship.

With 3 pools, a crew of over 450 people, a helipad, 18 decks, and its very own marina, MV Narrative offers luxury of a superyacht with the range of a cruise ship. Recently, Austin Wells, an employee with Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, announced buying a 12-year lease on an apartment in the cruise ship. “The thing that most excites me is I don’t have to upend my daily routine, in order to go see the world,” he said.

While the cruise ship covers an area of 1,970 square feet, Wells’ will be in the possession of an apartment with 237 square feet. His room will come with a bunk bed, a pantry, and a shower room. Further, he will also get access to the co-working space, gym, spa, and medical service.

From the foothills of mountains, to beachside. From bustling bars, to quaint cafes, employees who have been working from home after the onset of COVID-19, have taken various ways to break the monotony, and find a space where they can work and play. Recently, Austin Wells went one step above and beyond, by spending $3,00,000 to get an apartment in a luxury cruise ship so that he could ‘work from home’.

“Don’t have to upend daily routine”

Austin Wells is an employee with Meta’s Reality Labs. Recently, he spoke to CNBC, where he gave details about his decision to get aboard a cruise ship to work there and see the world as well. Austin bought a 12-year lease for an apartment in MV Narrative, a luxury cruise ship, set to take to the ocean in 2025.

Speaking to CNBC, Austin said, “The thing that most excites me is I don’t have to upend my daily routine, in order to go see the world.”

“I’m going from this model where you want to go somewhere, you pack a bag, you get on a flight, you rent a room; to now my condo, my gym, my doctors and dentists, all of my grocery stores travel the world with me,” he added, as quoted by Daily Mail.

500 Rooms, Pools, 450+ Crew: MV Narrative Rewrites Luxury

For the unversed, MV Narrative is a luxury cruise ship with 500 private rooms. The ship is set to sail in 2025 with a crew of over 450 people. Further, the cruise also boasts having a helipad, as many as 18 decks, 3 pools, and a marina for those who want to rejuvenate themselves in the pristine water.

The crème de la crème apartment will be available to those who can put down a whopping $8 million. The top-of-the-line apartment features 4 bedrooms spread over two floors with access to some amazing amenities.

What Will Wills’ Apartment Look Like?

Compared to that, Wells’ apartment will be a modest one. It will have an area of 237 sq feet, and will feature a folding bed, a pantry, and a shower room. While this may sound underwhelming, Wells’ would get access to gym, spa, medical services, and 24-hour room service.
