A US-based teen in Michigan recently found out that the cyberbully who was harassing her and her boyfriend for a year was her own mother! The shocking incident was reported from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and the accused was identified as 42-year-old Kendra Gail Licari. Kendra was arrested after being charged with multiple counts of stalking a minor, using computer to commit a crime, and one count of obstruction of justice.

According to reports, the accused mother started harassing her own daughter as early as 2021. When the initial report in the matter was made, the accused was working as a girls’ basketball coach at the Beal City Schools. As the investigation progressed, Kendra Gali Licari was identified as an accused, after her IP addresses matched to those who sent the questionable messages.

In addition to bullying her own daughter, Kendra has also been accused of using VPN (virtual private network), to frame one of her daughter’s peers. After being confronted, Kendra made a complete confession of her crimes. However, she did not divulge as to why she chose her own daughter to cyberbully.

As per nonprofit organization DoSomething, 37% of Americans between ages 12 and 17, have been bullied online with 30% of them being cyberbullied more than once.

The Facts of the Matter

Due to the exponential advent of social media, depraved minds have started using the cloak of anonymity to bully and harass other social media users online. From calling victims names, to catcalling, to even sextortion, cyberbullying can take many forms, and remains one of the biggest challenges today.

US Teen Gets Cyberbullied by her Mother

Recently, a US-based teen from Michigan discovered that the anonymous cyberbully who used to harass her and her boyfriend for a year, was her own mother! It is unclear as to why the accused mother chose her own daughter to cyberbully.

The accused has been identified as 42-year-old Kendra Gali Licari.

Bullying Started in Early 2021

The accused was arrested after a year-long investigation which started way back in December 2021. The complaint was filed by the accused’s daughter and her then-boyfriend, both of whom had started getting cyberbullied in early 2021.

At the time the cyberbullying complaint was registered, the accused was a girls’ basketball coach at the Beal City Schools. As per a New York post, the accused and one other student’s mother complied with the investigation.

Matter Handed Over to Local Police Department

The matter, which was first investigated by the school’s own department, was passed to the local law enforcement department as the bullying did not take place on school property.

After FBI analysists matched the Licari’s IP addresses to the anonymous bully who sent the objectionable messages, Licari was found to be the accused. After being confronted with 349 pages of text and social media transcripts of the messages, the accused broke down and confessed to the crime.

Accused Mother Makes Confession

Accused Kendra Gali Licari has been charged with multiple counts of stalking a minor, using a computer to commit a crime, and one count of using a computer to commit a crime. Each count can be amounted to a five-year felony.

She also used virtual private networks to implicate one of her daughters’ peers.
