In Madhya Pradesh, an 18-year-old girl reportedly swallowed an entire mobile phone after having a quarrel with her brother, forcing her to undergo a 2-hour-long emergency surgery that was ultimately successful. The shocking incident was reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind and occurred earlier on Friday. The girl ultimately received 10 stitches by the end of the procedure, a decent bargain, given the fact that the mobile phone could’ve caused severe internal damage.

In a small town in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, a heated argument between siblings over a Chinese cell phone escalated into a shocking incident that left the family and medical professionals in awe. In an impulsive and desperate attempt to end the dispute, the 18-year-old girl swallowed the entire phone, causing immediate panic among her family.

The girl was rushed to Jayarogya hospital (JAH) in Gwalior, where a team of skilled doctors, led by the Head of Department, Dr Prashant Srivastava, and the unit in-charge, Dr Prashant Pipariya, sprang into action. They conducted a series of examinations, including an ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scan, only to determine that the phone could not be safely retrieved through less invasive methods

The surgical team worked tirelessly for nearly two hours to safely remove the phone from the girl’s stomach. The team of doctors expressed their shock of never having such a case presented before.

The Facts of the Matter

Sibling rivalry is an age-old phenomenon, with brothers and sisters engaging in petty squabbles and arguments over trivial things. However, there are instances where these conflicts can escalate into something more serious, even leading to desperate and potentially life-threatening measures. The recent incident in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, where an 18-year-old girl swallowed a Chinese cell phone in an attempt to end a dispute with her brother.

Fight with Brother Takes Strange Turn

The 18-year-old girl, in an impulsive and desperate attempt to end the argument, swallowed the entire cell phone, causing immediate concern among her family. The girl’s family wasted no time in seeking medical attention and rushed her to Jayarogya hospital (JAH) in Gwalior, a teaching hospital associated with Gwalior Medical College.

Upon her arrival at JAH, a team of skilled doctors led by the Head of Department, Dr. Prashant Srivastava, and the unit in-charge, Dr. Prashant Pipariya, sprang into action.

Surgical Intervention Remained Only Option

The medical team conducted a thorough examination, including an ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scan. However, they determined that the phone could not be safely retrieved through less invasive methods such as endoscopy or laparoscopy. Surgical intervention was the only viable option.

Surgery Went on for 2 Hours

Despite the challenges posed by the situation, the surgical team worked tirelessly for nearly two hours to safely remove the phone from the girl’s stomach. Associate professor Dr. Naveen Kushwaha, and resident surgeons Dr. Ashwini Pandey and Dr. Surendra Chouhan, provided valuable assistance to the surgical team, who ultimately succeeded in retrieving the phone, TOI reported.

Never Saw Such a Case in 20 Years: Senior Doctor

Following the successful procedure, the girl received ten stitches and was reported to be in stable condition. Dr. Kushwaha, a seasoned medical professional with over two decades of experience, expressed his astonishment at the unprecedented case, noting that he had never encountered such an incident throughout his illustrious career.

He emphasized the importance of caution when entrusting young children with smartphones, urging parents to consider the maturity and responsibility of their children before providing them with such devices.
