A tribal man MP who was acquitted in a gang rape case has sued the Madhya Pradesh government for a sum of a whopping Rs 10,000 crores, after he suffered “loss of sexual pleasure”, among other anguishes and plights. Pushing the envelope on the idea of “human lives are precious”, the man is seeking Rs 10,000 crores from the state government, claiming “suffering and mental agony” he and his family felt after he was incarcerated.

The case dates back to 2018, when the man, Kantu, was charged with another man Bheru on the charges of abduction and gangrape. Earlier on October 10, 2022, he was acquitted by a sessions court, who claimed that the prosecution didn’t establish guilt beyond doubt.

While Kantu was in jail he suffered from severe physical and mental plights. Further, he claimed that his family was pushed on the brink of poverty as he is the sole bread earner. To undo what was wronged, he has now sought Rs 10,000 crores

A TOI report quoted him saying, “I can’t describe the suffering I went through during those two years of imprisonment. My family can’t even afford innerwear. I faced extreme weather, like heat and cold, without clothes in prison.”

For “loss of God’s gift to humans e.g sexual pleasure”, he is seeking Rs 10,000 crores.

The Facts of the Matter

Thanks to stringent laws put in place, accused of horrific crimes like abduction and rapes are put behind bars and punished with imprisonment. However, the system of justice is such that often there are men and women who are falsely implicated, and are sent to jail because the law states so. It is only when they are acquitted, that they are freed and can live their life with normalcy.
