A MP-based man’s quest for bride with a government job has gone viral on social media. The man can be seen holding a poster saying that he is ready to pay dowry for a woman with a government job. While dowry is a practice primarily practiced in India where a bride’s family gives her new partner money, and other assets as a ‘gift’, this MP-based man turned the tables, by saying that he is okay to pay the dowry to the bride’s family if his requirement is obliged.

The man in question has been identified as Vikalp Malviya, who took to the crowded spot in the middle of Fountain Chowk near the Kamania Gate beach market in Chhindrawa. Malviya was seen standing in the middle of the crowded spot, with a poster that read, “Want a girl with a government job for marriage. Will give dowry to her”.

Presenting himself as a dashing groom, Malviya also wore a shirt, jeans and a pair of sunglasses to complete his look. The video has been viewed over 1.8k times on Twitter and has been garnering myriad of reactions.

“Very nice, but don’t make it funny by using Laughter background sound. This is a very serious issue of society,” a user wrote. “I am totally agree with this person that is right to equality,” another reacted.

Under the Dowry Prohibition Act, giving, receiving, or demanding dowry, is outlawed and a party guilty of the same can face some serious legal consequences. However, despite the prohibition, the “tradition” of a bride’s family giving dowry to a groom’s family in the form of cash, land, or other kinds of assets, continues to be practiced in India.

Recently, a man in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara turned the tables around in his unique quest of finding a bride for himself. The man’s quest was caught on video, visuals of which are going viral on social media.

The man was identified as Vikalp Malviya, a Char Pathak area resident in MP’s Chhindwara.

What does the Video Show

The video, steadily going viral on social media, shows Malviya standing in the middle of a road, in the crowded Fountain Chowk market with a poster in his hands. The poster in question read – “शादी के लिये सरकारी नौकरी वाली लड़की चाहिये, दहेज़ मैं दे दूंगा (Want a girl with a government job for marriage. I will give dowry to her)”.

50 Single Men Take ‘Barat’ in Solapur As Protest Against Skewed Sex Ratio

In a unique protest against skewed ratio in their area, 50 single men earlier last year took a ‘barat’ to governor’s office, and sought actions to be made against the concerning situation.

In December 2022, 50 eligible bachelors dressed themselves up in wedding costumes, and rode horses with a marching “band and baaja” to take a mock ‘barat’. Their mission was to highlight the male-to-female ratio disparity, which has caused them distress.
