In another disappointing news for Indian cricket fans, former Indian team skipper MS Dhoni is no more the most successful T20I captain. He was surpassed by England captain Eoin Morgan who has helped the England side to register as many as 43 T20 victories. The record was previously tied between Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan. Both Dhoni and Afghan had 42 T20 victories under their belt.

The new change in the record books came after England played Sri Lanka in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup on November 1. The Eoin Morgan led England defeated Sri Lanka by 26 runs and crawled further up in the league table. Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team is virtually out of the World Cup. The only way it can qualify for the upcoming stage of the game is if Afghanistan ends up defeating New Zealand and India defeats its next opponent by a drastic margin.

Cool as a cucumber, sensible as a stoic, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been responsible for bringing about a new change in the way Indian team played cricket on an international level. While the Indian team was always formidable when it was led by the likes of Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, it’s Aichele’s heel was its inconsistent results.

That changed when Dhoni stepped into the shoes of the captain. He created a team which won a slew of tournaments and had consistent results. Under his captainship, the Indian team won the ICC ODI World Cup in 2011, the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the Champions Trophy as well.

However, records are meant to be broken, and Dhoni’s record of being one of the most successful T20I captain was recently broken.

The Facts of the Matter

Team England skipper Eoin Morgan dethroned Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the most successful T20 international captain on November 1. On Monday, the Three Lions won its 4th Super-Six game and registered a victory over Sri Lanka in Sharjah.

Eoin Morgan’s Record Can’t Be Broken by Dhoni or Asghar

If we take a look at the number, Eoin Morgan has surpassed Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Asghar Afghan with 43 wins. Both Dhoni and Afghan had 42 wins under the belt. Interestingly, neither Dhoni nor Afghan can surpass Eoin Morgan as both have retired from T20 international.

Eoin Morgan has achieved the illustrious feat in record 68 matches. Eoin Morgan’s record came at a time when his team also booked the sure-shot Semi-Final berth at the ongoing World Cup T20. The three lions have won their last 4 matches consecutively and are being looked as the potential finalists.

A Look at Dhoni’s Numbers

If we talk about numbers, MS Dhoni led team India in 72 matches where India won 41 matches and lost 28. While one match was tied, 2 matches ended in no results. Dhoni has a decent average win to loss ratio at 1.464. The win percentage of Dhoni is 57%.

Afghanistan Skipper More Lethal than Dhoni or Morgan

Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s Asghar Afghan took the reins of Afghanistan team from the 2015-2021. His performance has been much better than both Eoin Morgan and MS Dhoni. In 52 matches that he has captained, victories for Afghanistan came on 52 occasions while there were only 9 lost matches. Thus, Asghar’s win percentage has been 81.73.

Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Ahmed Still Have a Tough Road Ahead

Another crucial statistic also gives a perspective just how talented this trio has been. On the fourth position is Pakistan’s Sarfaraz Ahmed who has only 29 wins in 37 matches. Current Indian skipper Virat Kohli is on the trail and has helped his side achieve wins in 27 matches from the 47 overall matches.
