In a blood-curdling incident reported from Mumbai, a 21-year-old woman got her 11-year-old ‘friend’ gangraped by 3 men, and stayed at the site of assault to watch. The incident was reported Virar, north to the city of Mumbai and occurred earlier on Tuesday, August 16.
The police are investigating why the 21-year-old woman got her minor friend raped by the 3 accused. One of the accused is a vegetable vendor and other accused is a college student based in Virar. While the two accused and the woman are arrested, the police are on the lookout to nab the third accused.
According to reports, the accused woman took the victim to an isolated spot on the pretext of going for a walk. The victim was taken to a pandal set up for the upcoming Ganpati festival. There she called the three men.
The accused men threatened the victim and asked her to have sex with one of them. Thereafter, the 21-year-old accused woman pinned victim and the two accused took turns to rape her while one molested her. The 21-year-old woman stayed at the spot to watch the heinous crime.
Based on the victim’s complaint, multiple teams were formed by the Virar police and the 21-year-old woman was arrested. Two other accused men were arrested within three hours of the complaint.

The police in Virar, Maharashtra arrested two women and a 21-year-old woman in the case of a gangrape of a 11-year-old girl. According to reports, the minor victim was gangraped by three men on the instruction of the 21-year-old ‘friend’ of the victim. While the two accused men and the woman were arrested within six hours of complaint, the police are on the lookout for the third accused.
Accused Took Victim to Ganpati Pandal
According to report, the 11-year-old victim met her 21-year-old female friend on Tuesday. The 21-year-old accused woman took the girl out for a stroll and took her to an isolated spot in Virar. From there, she called her three other male friends – aged 22 and 20 respectively.
The accused group took the victim to a Ganpati pandal setup ahead of the upcoming festivities. There, the male friends of the 21-year-old woman threatened the victim to have sex with one of them.
Accused Woman Stayed to See Crime
The 21-year-old woman then pinned down the victim and the two accused took turn in raping her.
Meanwhile, the other accused man molested her. The 21-year-old woman remained at the spot to witness the heinous crime.
The victim was dropped at around 5 am Wednesday morning by the accused. She told her family about the assault she was subjected to and the mother of the victim filed a complaint at the Virar police station.
Teams Formed, Arrests Made
Soon, multiple teams were formed to nab the accused. Based on the victim’s inputs, the police were able to nab the 21-year-old woman, and two accused men. While one of the man is a vegetable vendor, other is a college student.
The accused have been booked under multiple sections of IPC, and POCSO. They have been remanded in custody while the victim has been sent for medical examination.
Crimes against Women in Mumbai – A Look at Numbers
According to the Mumbai Police, the city reported a concerning 21% increase in crimes against women in 2021 when compared against 2020. Further, sexual assault against minors in the city had a staggering 59% increase in the same period.
Among other crimes against women, human trafficking accounted to 68 cases in 2021 and 63 cases in 2020. Similarly, as many as 155 women were rescued from trafficking in 2021 while 147 were rescued back in 2020.
