In a shocking incident reported from Mumbai, 4 minors, aged 13 and 14-year-old, locked a girl in the classroom. While one of them tried to rape the minor survivor, others stood guard so that no one could intervene or raise an alert. The incident was reported from a BMC school located at Matunga and occurred earlier on Monday this week. The four accused juveniles have been sent to the Dongri remand home.

The matter came to the fore after the survivor’s parents filed a complaint, based on which an FIR was filed regarding the incident. The parents came to know about their daughter’s ordeal after she complained of having pain in her private parts to her mother.

A TOI report quoted a police officer involved in the investigation saying, “She told her mother that she was alone in the classroom when two boys locked the door while two of their friends kept watch outside. One of the boys sexually assaulted her and the other boy molested and tried to rape her.”

Based on the parents’ complaint, a case under multiple sections of IPC, including Section 376 DA (gang-rape of a woman under 16 years of age), and relevant sections of POCSO, was registered.

Earlier in Telangana this month, five class 10 boys gang-raped a 17-year-old girl, and recorded the act to threaten.

The Facts of the Matter

In 2021, the country reported another all-time high in crimes against minors. Cases pertaining to POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences), registered another increase, with as many as 53,874 such cases. While Uttar Pradesh led the unfortunate tally with 7,129 such cases, Maharashtra followed with 6,200 such cases.

In yet another heinous incident of child sexual abuse reported from Maharashtra, a 13-year-old girl was gang-raped by her classmates in school.

Incident Happened at Matunga School

The incident was reported from a BMC school located in Mumbai’s Matunga suburb and occurred earlier in Mumbai.

According to the reports, the classmates of the 13-year-old survivor had left the class to prepare for a school function. This was when the accused boys locked her in the classroom. While two boys stood guard. One proceeded to sexually assault the girl, while one molested her.

Girl Complains to Mother, Case Filed

The matter came to the fore after the girl reached home and complained of having pain in her private parts. The girl’s mother took to the local police station and filed a complaint regarding the matter.

Based on the mother’s complaint, the local police filed a case against the four accused minors under multiple sections of the IPC, including sections pertaining to gang-rape, and POCSO act.

The accused were later produced before the juvenile court, and were sent to a South Bombay remand home.

“Accused Threatened the Minor”: Mumbai Cop

A police officer involved in the matter was quoted in a Hindustan Times report saying, “The incident has shocked everyone at school. The accused did not stop at what they did, they even threatened the minor girl of dire consequences if she talked about the assault with anyone.”

“We will be also recording statements of the school authorities as the incident took place in the classroom,” he added.
