In the ongoing Mumbai high-rise fire that’s yet to be completely doused out, a harrowing video has emerged showing a man falling from 19th floor in an attempt to escape. The man was later taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

The dramatic visuals showed the man holding on to the ledge of a balcony. The man couldn’t manage to hold on to the ledge and ultimately ended up falling to his death. This has only been one reported casualty in the fire that broke out in Mumbai’s s Lalbaug area. The high-rise building that caught fire had 60 floors and the fire reportedly broke on the 19th floor of the residential building.

All tragedies have one thing in common – they can’t be predicted. As we earn more to live a life of safety and luxury, we move to places that promise the same. However, even such places witness terrible occurrences like fire or flooding and lives are at times put at risk.

Earlier this year, an apartment building caught fire in Bengaluru which shook the nation. The incident triggered a frenzy among people because of a video which showed women trapped in their apartment, being cornered by blazing fire, and then being engulfed in flame.

Another such fire broke out, this time in Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai, where 1 person died after falling to his death.

The Facts of the Matter

In a concerning report, a fire of level-4 broke out at Lalbaug’s Avigha Park apartment residential building in South Parel, Mumbai. For the unversed, the level-4 fire is labelled “very-high” and is defined as fire which starts easily and spreads rapidly after igniting. The Level-4 fire is known to increase quickly in its intensity and only trails behind Level-5 fire which is labelled “extreme”.

The 60-Floor Building in Question

After the fire-broke out, as many as 14 fire tenders were rushed to douse the fire. Further, several firefighting teams have been deployed and are currently at the location to douse the blaze. Although the cause is yet to be ascertained, the fire broke at the 19th floor of the Avigha Park tower apartment building. The building is reported to have 60 floors.

Video of Man Trapped in Fire Goes Viral

While the fire is yet to be doused out completely, the news has been spreading itself like wildfire due to the video of a man losing his life due to the incident. Social media platform Twitter has been flooded with visuals of a man hanging on to his life and then eventually falling to his death.

In the video, a man can be seen hanging on to the ledge of an apartment balcony. However, after a few seconds, the man loses his grip and eventually falls several floors down to his death.

Deceased was Watchman, Was Rescuing People Stuck in Fire

The deceased person has been identified as one Arun Tiwari. The 30-year-old man was rushed to the KEM Hospital and was declared dead on arrival. Reportedly, Tiwari worked as a security guard of the building and had gone up to rescue people after the fire broke out. However, somewhere between the 19th and 20th floor, he himself got trapped. The man then somehow made his way out of the balcony in a desperate attempt to escape the fire. However, he eventually lost the grip to the ledge to die.

Mumbai Mayor Claims Short Circuit Reason of the Fire

After the fire broke out, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar and other senior officials of the fire department rushed to the incident. According to the Mumbai Mayor, the fire broke out due to a short-circuit.

Management needs to be punished for non-operational of fire fighting system in a new building. Residents blamed the builder for not handing over the charge to the society as he is carrying out illegal construction,” an Indian Express report quoted her saying.
