In a surprising turn of events, a man in Mumbai made a novel use of Tinder, and ended up finding two sisters from the platform for upcoming Raksha Bandhan. The man’s claims were first shared on content website Reddit as a post wherein he claimed how he had felt a FOMO (fear of missing out) all his life during Raksha Bandhan as he had no sisters to celebrate with.
The OP (original poster) decided to make use of Twitter, a dating application, and expressed his intent on his bio. “Looking for a sister to hangout during Rakshabandhan”, his Tinder bio read. If one thinks that the man’s strategy is cringeworthy, or set to fail, they would be proven incorrect.
Not only did the man’s plan worked, but he eventually found two sisters that he now plans to celebrate the bond of brother-sister. “Thanks to tinder, now I have like two sisters both of whom I met on tinder. This year all 3 of us are planning to get together and celebrate Rakshabandhan and exchange gifts and stuff. I’m so excited”, he was quoted saying.
This is not the first time a dating platform was put to use for something else entirely. A Kerala man used Bumble to look for an apartment in Mumbai.
The Facts of the Matter
In India, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated with much excitement and fanfare. Brothers and sisters put aside their squabbles and quarrels for one day, and take time to cherish the bond they share. However, for some men and women, who don’t have any siblings, it’s a day of major FOMO (fear of missing out. This is especially true for social media netizens, who are bombarded with pictures of brothers and sisters celebrating the day in their own way.
Reddit User has FOMO on Raksha Bandhan
One Reddit user, whose account goes by the name of u/NotAKindGuyAnymore recently took to the Mumbai subreddit and shared a post which has since gone viral across other social media platforms. What! Using Tinder to Find..Sisters..?
He further mentioned how he is making use of Tinder, to find a sister to hangout during the festival. For the unversed, Tinder is a dating application which is primarily used by users to find longterm or short-term partners.
The Reddit OP wrote how for the last two years, he has been putting up a Tinder bio wherein he expresses his intent for finding sisters for Rakshabandhan. “Anyways, since last 2 years I have been putting the bio as follows during 2 weeks before Rakshabandhan: “Looking for a sister to hangout during Rakshabandhan,” he wrote.
If It Works, It Works
Although the plan may sound too desperate or cringeworthy to some, it is interesting to note that it worked out for the man. The OP wrote how he’s excited to celebrate the day with two sisters he found on the platform.
“Thanks to tinder, now I have like two sisters both of whom I met on tinder. This year all 3 of us are planning to get together and celebrate Rakshabandhan and exchange gifts and stuff. I’m so excited,” he wrote.
