In a surprising turn of events, a man in Mumbai made a novel use of Tinder, and ended up finding two sisters from the platform for upcoming Raksha Bandhan. The man’s claims were first shared on content website Reddit as a post wherein he claimed how he had felt a FOMO (fear of missing out) all his life during Raksha Bandhan as he had no sisters to celebrate with.

The OP (original poster) decided to make use of Twitter, a dating application, and expressed his intent on his bio. “Looking for a sister to hangout during Rakshabandhan”, his Tinder bio read. If one thinks that the man’s strategy is cringeworthy, or set to fail, they would be proven incorrect.

Not only did the man’s plan worked, but he eventually found two sisters that he now plans to celebrate the bond of brother-sister. “Thanks to tinder, now I have like two sisters both of whom I met on tinder. This year all 3 of us are planning to get together and celebrate Rakshabandhan and exchange gifts and stuff. I’m so excited”, he was quoted saying.

This is not the first time a dating platform was put to use for something else entirely. A Kerala man used Bumble to look for an apartment in Mumbai.

The Facts of the Matter

In India, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated with much excitement and fanfare. Brothers and sisters put aside their squabbles and quarrels for one day, and take time to cherish the bond they share. However, for some men and women, who don’t have any siblings, it’s a day of major FOMO (fear of missing out. This is especially true for social media netizens, who are bombarded with pictures of brothers and sisters celebrating the day in their own way.
