In a blood-curdling incident reported from Mumbai, a man was arrested for harassing as many as 550 women, including minors, with morphed pornographic content. The accused in the case was identified as 30-year-old Ravi Dandu, an employee working on contractual-basis in a private bank’s technical department.

According to a TOI report, the accused was arrested after the police acted on a complaint filed by a victim earlier in February. The accused proved himself to be quite a slippery one, and managed to evade police for the past few months. He was detained on Wednesday earlier this week.

According to the police, the accused used to blackmail his victims with the help of 10 smartphones, and 12 SIMs. The techie somehow managed to produce fake documents to get his hands on 12 SIMs. Coming from a technical background, the accused had managed to access the WhatsApp of his victims, and stole their contact lists. He used to send his victims pornographic content and blackmailed them into having a physical relationship with him.

“He had sent the victims’ morphed videos and demanded that they spend time with him. Dandu was finally tracked down to his Sion home after a call to a girl he was blackmailing to meet on Wednesday,” a police officer was quoted saying.

Accused Proved Slippery

On Wednesday, the police arrested 30-year-old Ravi Dandu, after acting on a complaint filed by a victim. The complaint was filed by a college girl way back in February. The accused had proved himself to be a slippery one, evading police for these many months.

However, his call was tracked to his Sion residence. The accused was on a call with a girl where he was blackmailing her to meet on Saturday.

Modus Operandi of the Accused

According to a TOI report, the accused was blackmailing his victims with the help of 10 smartphones and 12 SIM cards. The accused was able to get his hands on the SIMs as he produced fake documents when needed.

A TOI report quoted an Andheri police officer who spoke more about the accused’s modus operandi. “He had illegally accessed the WhatsApp of many women and minors to steal their contact lists to send the porn videos. His intention was to coerce them into a physical relationship.”

The accused used to send his victims’ morphed pornographic videos to them, and blackmailed them into spending time with them.

How Techie Got Contact Details of Victims

Ravi Dandu was a contract-basis employee of a leading bank. He used to get hold of the contact details of his victims through the bank’s data base. In one of the complaints filed by a victim, she alleged that the accused introduced himself to be a professor and was creating a group for students to share notes.

Soon, the complainant had to deactivate her WhatsApp as the accused used to send her adult videos, and used to stalk her.

According to the police, the accused was able to steal contact list of the victims after managing to access their WhatsApp.

The accused has been booked under multiple sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. For now, the police are collaborating to see whether there are other such FIRs related to him.
