In the ongoing 64th National Shooting Championship, Haryana’s Manu Bhaker won the women’s 10-meter air pistol gold medal while Esha Singh grabbed the junior and youth title. Manu Bhaker is the youngest Indian champion of the women’s 10-metre air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup 2018.

Background

In November 2021 at the the ISSF President’s Cup in Wroclaw, Bhaker won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team. This multiple gold medal winner, failed to make it to the final of Tokyo Olympics 2020 due to malfunctioning of her pistol. She however proved her champion title once again true in the recent tournaments. Her triumphs in ISSF President’s Cup and also in this ongoing National Shooting Championship are pointing towards her restored spirit and once again, the bright future of Indian Shooting ahead.

Manu Bhaker beats Esha Singh

Manu Bhaker qualified in fifth place for the women’s 10m air pistol final event with a score of 576 and with a score of 582, 16-year-old Esha Singh placed first in this qualifying round. It is Singh who once beat Bhaker in the 62nd edition of the shooting nationals.

On Saturday, in the final round consisting of 24 competition shots at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi, Bhaker shot a 241.6 and won gold beating Tamil Nadu’s Shri Nivetha by 1.7 points. Esha, besides being crowned the champions in the youth and junior events, shot 215.4 and managed to claim bronze from the senior field as well. Bhaker is now the champion of three of the last four national events.

Some Other Names among 483 Shooters

483 shooters had participated in the women’s field. Among them, Olympian Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Olympian Rahi Sarnobat got 18th and 29th place with scores of 570 and 568 respectively. Ruchita Vinerkar took fourth place while Aadhya Tayal placed fifth in this event.

Be Ready for Monday

Manu will also be shooting in the 25m sports pistol which will occur this Monday. The game will be interesting in many ways as Bhaker recently claimed bronze in the 25m pistol field at the Junior Shooting World Championship 2021 in Lima.
