National Testing Agency (NTA) has opened up their portal for the registration of NEET 2020 examinations on 2nd December 2019. Students can complete their registration process for the 2020 NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) examination by visiting the official portal @ntaneet.nic.in. Students who are appearing for NTA NEET 2020 are advised to complete their registrations as soon as possible.

Apart from this, other relevant details such as application process, eligibility criteria, and important dates for NEET 2020 are discussed below.

What is NEET?

After an announcement by the HRD Ministry which came earlier this year, NEET has become the single entrance test to get admission to undergraduate medical programmes including MBBS and BDS in India. Before this, students had to appear into different examinations conducted by different organisations and institutes like AIIMS and PIGMER. However, HRD ministry has mandated that only a single medical entrance test be conducted for all the medical aspirants to get admissions in any institute across India.

Hence, from 2020, NEET will be the deciding factor for the MBBS & BDS aspirants for the allotment of seats in medical & dental colleges including AIIMS, JIPMER, private medical colleges, state-run medical colleges, AFMC, ESIC, etc.

Note: Apart from the students pursuing a medical career from domestic institutes, those who wish to go abroad for medical studies, also need to clear NEET examinations to qualify for admission in foreign medical universities.

NEET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

As per the official notification from the National Testing Agency, candidates need to qualify the following criteria to qualify eligibility to appear for NEET 2020 exam.

Nationality: Indian. Only Indian nationals are allowed to appear for the NEET 2020 exams.

Academic Eligibility: Applying students must have completed 10+2 educational criteria or must be appearing for 10+2 exam this year

Subject Combination: Applicants must be pursuing/studying the subject combination of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Bio-technology at 10+2 level along with Mathematics, English and an elective subject at 10+2 level.

As per the official notification published on ntaneet.nic.in website, the National Test Agency has prescribed lower age limit has been set at 17 years as on 31st December 2019 while the upper age limit has been fixed at 25 years as on 31st December 2019.

NEET 2020 Age Limit

As per the notification published on ntaneet.nic.in website, the apex testing agency has also prescribed the upper and lower age limit for the applicants appearing for NEET 2020 entrance exam. However, there has been a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit for the candidates coming from SC, ST, OBC NCL, PWD. This means the students up to the age of 30 years, coming from the said categories can apply for NEET 2020.

NEET 2020 Application Fee Hiked

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has hiked the application fee for NEET 2020 medical entrance exam by 5 to 7%. The fees structure is as follows:

General Category Candidates: Rs 1500/-,

General EWS and OBW Non-Creamy Layer Candidates: Rs 1400/-.

SC, ST, PWD and Transgender Candidates: Rs 800/-.
