An Oklahoma-based man made the news recently for robbing a Starbucks store after the store denied his wife a $1.25 refund. Hilariously enough, the man could rob less than the refund amount, and ended up stealing $1 from the tip jar. The incident, which occurred earlier on Sunday last week in Edmond, Oklahoma City, and the accused in the matter was identified as 61-year-old Richard Engle.
According to reports, the 61-year-old accused, had gone to Starbucks in Edmond with his wife. At the store, his wife demanded a refund of a beverage she purchased recently, costing $1.25. However, when she was denied the refund, matters escalated. The woman was asked to reach out to the corporate office.
And while she walked out of the store, her husband rushed in, and picked up money kept in a tip jar. Staff of the store followed the man, and clicked pictures of his vehicle’s license plate. As the staff clicked pictures, the accused man also tried to back his car into the staff, in the hope of driving them away.
The store staff alerted the police, and the latter eventually tracked the accused down and put him in custody. He has been locked up and now faces robbery and assault charges.
The Facts of the Matter
Thefts committed out of revenge often result in the accused stealing an amount much higher than they were deprived of in some manner. However, in a shocking incident reported from Oklahoma, a man ended up committing a robbery of $1, after his wife was denied a refund of $1.25
The incident was reported from Edmond, Oklahoma City, and occurred earlier last week when the accused and his wife went to a Starbucks. The accused was identified as Richard Engle (61).
Accused’s Wife Refused Refund of $1.25
Earlier on Sunday, Richard and his wife visited the Starbucks in Edmond. At the store, Richard’s wife sought a refund for a beverage she recently bought for $1.25. However, the store staff denied her the refund, and asked her to call the corporate office.
While the wife of the accused left the store being denied the refund, the refusal didn’t go down too well with her husband. Richard Engle stormed into the store, and picked up money from the tip jar kept on the front counter of the store.
Staff Takes Pictures of Registration Plate
Before the staff could ask him to return the money, the accused left the store. As the accused stormed off to his car, the staff followed him, and started taking pictures of him leaving the premises, along with pictures of his car’s registration plate.
According to the police report, the accused also backed into the staff “one or two more times” in order to fend him off.
Accused Charged with Assault & Robbery
Following the incident, the Starbucks staff contacted the authorities, who managed to track the accused down and put him into custody.
Shockingly, the accused could only manage to steal a total sum of $1, half a dollar less than the amount the refund his wife was refused. Meanwhile, the accused is charged with robbery and assault.
