An old video of Bobby Kataria, an influencer, smoking on plane has resurfaced. Following the clip going viral, aviation minister Scindia responded. For the unversed, Bobby Kataria is a social media influencer. On Instagram, Kataria has 6.30 lakh followers. His feed is filled with his pictures where he’s seen flexing his muscles and showing off his lifestyle.

After video of Bobby smoking in an airplane went viral on Twitter, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took to Twitter and wrote, “Investigating it. There will be no tolerance towards such hazardous behaviour.”

Meanwhile, SpiceJet informed that the incident transpired back January 20, 2022, and that a complaint had been filed by the airline with the Gurugram police.  “The video, the investigation had revealed, was shot on 20th January 2022 while passengers were boarding flight SG 706 scheduled to operate from Dubai to Delhi,” the statement read.

“The said passenger and his co-passengers shot the video on the 21st row when the cabin crew were occupied with completing the on-boarding procedure. None of the passengers or crew was aware of the act. The matter came to the airline’s notice on January 24, 2022 through social media posts,” the statement further read.

Meanwhile, Kataria took to Instagram and shared pictures of news reports about the incident and wrote, “Only TRP is needed. Speak anything and keep politicians engaged”.

The Facts of the Matter

Weeks after popular social media influencer Gaurav Taneja aka Flying Beast was arrested by Noida Police for organizing his birthday party at a metro station, another influencer is brewing controversy. This time, Bobby Kataria, a social media influencer, is in the eye of controversial storm after a video of him smoking in airplane went viral on social media.

According to reports, the incident transpired back in January 2022, and SpiceJet airline had filed a complaint regarding the same to the Gurugram police.

What Does the Video Show?

In the video gone viral, Gurugram-based influencer Bobby Kataria can be seen lying down on the aircraft’s seats and trying to light a cigarette. The influencer with over 6.30 lakh followers on Instagram takes a drag of the cigarette before the video ends.

Aviation Minister Responds

After the video of the incident went viral, Civil Aviation Minister, Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia took to Twitter and tweeted – “Investigating it. There will be no tolerance towards such hazardous behaviour.”

SpiceJet Issues Statement

Following the incident, SpiceJet also issued a statement regarding the matter. The low-cost carrier stated that the video was shot on January 20th, 2022 in a flight from Dubai to Delhi.

“The said passenger and his co-passengers shot the video on the 21st row when the cabin crew were occupied with completing the on-boarding procedure. None of the passengers or crew was aware of the act. The matter came to the airline’s notice on January 24, 2022 through social media posts,” the spokesperson stated.

Kataria was Put on No-Flying List for 15 Days

The airline added that the incident was handed over to an internal committee as per the provisions of Civil Aviation Requirements in handling of unruly passengers. Bobby Kataria was put on a no-flying list for 15 days back in February 2022.

Meanwhile, in a bid to milk popularity out of the incident, Kataria himself took to Instagram and posted a picture of news reports of the incident. He also wrote a caption in Hindi which was roughly translated as – “Only TRP is needed. Speak anything and keep politicians engaged.”
