In a moment of cringe worthy ouch, a UK man made history, for all the unwanted reasons. In a first, the British Man made history by breaking his penis vertically during sex. Although the injury did not prove serious and the man has been claimed to have been recovering well, he did suffer a 3-cm fracture after the ordeal.

Details

A penile fracture following a date is not your ‘everyday-just-the-usual’ occurrence. Chances of you asking someone how their date was and them telling you “Other than breaking my penis, it was great”, are slim to none. And while penile fractures are rare, there’s something even more rare – a vertically fractured penis.

The Injury

A penile fracture – or as your friends might call it, a broken penis – is a small tear that starts from a protective layer that surrounds the erectile tissue called tunica albuginea, to the penis. Although there are really no bones in a man’s penis, there’s a reason why it’s called and feel like a broken bone.

The reason is that as most of the times these injuries occur during sex, and the penis is completely erect and is bent too far – and with too much force, causing it to leak blood. When such an injury occurs, its also accompanied by a loud pop, followed by swelling and bruising. And thus, it feels like a broken bone.

The UK Man’s Historic Injury

According to a British Medical Journal’s report, urologists published a case study on a 40-year-old man’s injury. The case study states that the patient’s injury, rare at the first place, was even rarer.

Like most instances, the man had gotten injured during sex. However, he actually did not show any classic symptoms. Neither did he heard the loud popping sound, nor did he witness large bruises. Moreover, he didn’t lose his erection and his penis was only moderately swollen.

When the urologists came to know this, they were convinced that the man needed an MRI for further investigation. When the MRI tests came back, it was found out that the man had suffered a 3-cm vertical fracture on the right side.

As far as the consensus of the urologists went – it was a one-of-a-kind injury.

The surgery that followed

Given how rare the penile fractures are, and also unheard of due to the stigma and embarrassment, we would like to tell our readers that it is indeed a serious medical emergency, and if not handled promptly, can lead to disability.

It is often advised that the injury is treated within 24 hours. And there are occurrences, where despite with the treatment, lasting complications such as erectile dysfunction, scarred urethra, and more can plague a man.

Thankfully, in this situation, the surgery was a complete success. Moreover, it was reported that the man didn’t take long to recover from the injury and indulged in sexual activities few months after the surgery.

The Painful Takeaway

As mentioned earlier, penile fractures are rare, but within the realm of possibilities. To reduce possibilities of such an instance, there are things you can keep in mind.

Remember that although having sex is not a surgical strike that will need you to rely on GPS, you do need to pay attention to where you are headed. Throwing caution in the heat of moment is one thing and wildly misfiring like a drunk archer is something painfully different.

A male penis is usually called a tool or package, but that shouldn’t make you use it like one and throw it around wherever you may please.
