Pakistan’s Embassy in Serbia, in a series of two tweets, shared that the Serbian Embassy staff hasn’t been paid for the last 3 months. The series of tweets became a reason for embarrassment for the Imran Khan’s government. The tweet aims to criticise the government for their drowning economic conditions by mentioning how the staff in the embassy have not been getting paid for 3 months and their children are forced to drop out of schools due to untimely fees.
The account was later been announced as hacked and the tweets have been deleted.
The Tweets and the Claims
The verified Twitter account of the Pakistan Embassy in Serbia raised questions against the Government of Pakistan on how long the government employees have been going to work for him without getting paid.
Along with the tweet a video was attached in which an old video by Saad Alavi was woven with a track around Khan’s address in which he says ‘Aapne ghabrana nahi’. The video gained immense popularity when it was released on March 21, 2021.
The video attempts to parody the situation of Pakistan where the commoners are struggling with inflation and the leader says, ‘Aapne ghabrana nahi’ (Don’t worry, no matter what the situation is).
“With inflation breaking all previous records, how long do you expect Imran Khan that we government official[s] will remain silent and keep working for you without being paid for past 3 months and our children been forced out of school due to non-payment of fees. Is this Naya Pakistan? I am sorry Imran Khan, am not left with another option,” Pakistan Embassy in Serbia’s official Twitter handle read.
In a tweet following the claim, the person apologized to Imran Khan saying he wasn’t left with any other choice.

Pakistan’s Response to the Claim
However, Pakistan’s Government quickly issued a clarification on Twitter itself saying, “The Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts of the Embassy of Pakistan in Serbia have been hacked.”
The Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts of the Embassy of Pakistan in Serbia have been hacked.
Messages being posted on these accounts are not from the Embassy of Pakistan in Serbia.

The tweets have been deleted from the Embassy’s official account and an investigation has started to identify the wrongdoer.

How Netizens Reacted to this Situation
While the Pakistan Government has dismissed the situation as a matter of “Hacking”, netizens are smelling controversy in it. Some believe it was actually from an employee who anonymously spilt the truth, while others argue that the parody video would have been completely unnecessary if the objective was to draw attention to this grave issue.
Interestingly, users from both sides have hilarious takes on this unusual matter.
The issue of non-payment of salary may be genuine but addition of a funny video towards the end suggests that it could actually be a hacker's job. If it was indeed from an insider in the embassy, he or she would've ended just with the text part due to seriousness of the problem.

The Crippling Economy of Pakistan
Due to the pandemic, Imran Khan’s government has been struggling to maintain the stability of the country’s economy. Other than China, which has declared Pakistan as its ‘all-weather ally’, Islamabad has been greylisted by Financial Action Task Force and Global Creditors Citing.
Previously, data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics showed how inflation edged up to 11.5 per cent from 9.2 per cent, the highest increase noted in the past 20 months. The petrol prices are at a record high at Rs 145 per litre and the rupee is at its record low at Rs 176 against one US dollar.
