A grieving father experienced an incredible turn of events when he received a phone call from his missing daughter, who he thought was dead and, due to misidentification, had ‘cremated’ a few days prior. “Dad, I’m still alive”, she assured him.

Anshu Kumari, from the Akbarpur area of Purnia, had disappeared a month ago. Despite her the family’s intensive efforts to find her, they could not find any trace of her. Last week, a female body was discovered in a local canal. Owing to the state of the body – her face was badly swollen and unrecognizable – she was mistakenly identified by her clothing by Anshu’s distraught family.

Her father, overwhelmed by his loss, struggled to partake in his daughter’s apparent funeral rites. Consequently, her grandfather steps in to perform the final rituals.

The daughter had been missing for a month, and it was her father who identified her body. According to reports, on August 15, police found an unidentified body of a girl in a canal at Dadhwa Village located in the Akbarpur OP area of Thana region.

Following the image of the body becoming viral on social media, Vinod Mandal, a resident of Tulsi Vishnupur from the Baliya OP region, identified the corpse as his daughter, Anshu Kumari. The body had been there for several days and had become disfigured. Family members were able to identify the corpse based on the clothes on the girl’s body and her fingers.

As per the information, Anshu had been missing for a month due to a love affair. Her family searched for her at their own level, but could not trace her.

Given this, when an unidentified body was found, her family assumed that perhaps Anshu had been murdered and her body dumped in the canal. The condition of the unidentified body also raised suspicions that she might have been sexually assaulted and then killed.

Anshu Kumari had mysteriously left her home and got married to her boyfriend at a temple in Rupoli Halt, Janakinagar Thana. She was living with her in-laws since then.

Meanwhile, she was shocked to hear a news in the media about her own death ceremony. Disturbed by this, and disturbed by the fear of having gotten married without her family’s consent, she eventually made a video call to her family on Friday and confirmed that she was indeed alive.

The body that was identified as Anshu by the relatives, and for which the police had been taking action, has now seen a new turn in the case. The police, having post-mortem the body, had handed it over to the family. Now that evidence of Anshu being alive has surfaced, a big question arises as to who the deceased woman was.

The condition of the body had raised suspicions of molestation followed by murder, this has increased the challenge for the police. Akbarpur OP in-charge, Suraj Kumar mentioned that the unknown body has been cremated, but the clothes and items needed for identification are still secure. The police will now attempt to identify who she was from the beginning.
