Politicians React

After the ruckus, BJP MP Swapan Dasgupta was quoted saying-

“He was making a statement. You had the right to question him after that. But instead of going in for a debate, is this the type of hooliganism we see inside the House? This is completely against all norms; I think it should be condemned out right.”

Swapan Dasgupta was further quoted by ANI saying-

“It seems that some people of Opposition, notably some of the TMC MPs, got up & took the paper from the hands of the Minister (IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw while he was speaking on ‘Pegasus’) & tore it up. This is completely unseemly behaviour.”

What is the Pegasus Controversy?

The entire Pegasus controversy evolved after major publishing houses such as the Washington Post and the Guardian published reports which claimed that a spyware called Pegasus was being used in countries across the world for spying on journalists, politicians, judges and influential people.

As per the reports, these individuals were targeted right before the Lok Sabha elections in 2018-2019. Journalists like Sushant Singh, Siddharth Varadarajan, politicians like Rahul Gandhi, Prashant Kishor, Ashwini Vaishnaw and several prominent academics and judges were targeted in the attack.

Since then, leaders from all the opposition parties are attacking the Centre while the Centre has dismissed all allegations which claimed its involvement in the matter.
