While addressing them Modi said, “As a climate-responsible developing country, India welcomes partners to create templates of sustainable development in India. These can also help other developing countries, who need affordable access to green finance and clean technologies”. Adding to it he also said that, this is the sole reason behind launching the India-US climate and clean energy Agenda 2030 partnership.

During the summit, US shared how it has decided to cut the emission by around 50-52% of its 2005 level till 2030. This is just the double of the goal which was set up by former president Barak Obama back in 2015.

Joe Biden later in the summit said, “You know, these steps will help America set up on a path of net-zero emissions economy by not later than 2050. But the truth is that America represents less than 15 per cent of the world’s emissions. No nation can solve this crisis on our own, as I know you all fully understand. All of us, and particularly those of us who represent the world’s largest economies – we have to step up.”

China’s President Xi Jinping promoted China’s green Belt and Road Initiative and announced efforts to strictly control coal-fired power generation projects and phase down coal consumption. China has pledged to cut their emissions to net zero by 2060.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a target of 78% emission reduction by 2035. Adding to his statement he said, “We were first country to pass legislation for net zero. We have the biggest offshore wind capacity of any country in the world, the Saudi Arabia of wind as I never tire of saying.”

Angela Merkel, German Chancellor said that Germany wants to reduce emission to 55% by 2030. The summit also featured Russian president Vladimir Putin, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, also a set of 101 Nobel laureates, including the Dalai Lama who urged in a letter to all the summit’s attendees to take strict action against the use of fossil fuels.

In the closing A joint statement from India-US was stated, “The Partnership will proceed along two main tracks: The Strategic Clean Energy Partnership and the Climate Action and Finance Mobilization Dialogue, which will build on and subsume a range of existing processes. Through this collaboration, India and the United States aim to demonstrate how the world can align swift climate action with inclusive and resilient economic development, taking into account national circumstances and sustainable development priorities.”

PM Narendra Modi also raised his voice for making the present decade a “decade of action” against climate, further adding he said, “We in India are doing our part. Our ambitious renewable energy targets of 450 Gigawatts by 2030, and it will surely get proven by our commitment.”
