On September 27, PM Modi launched Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, under which a free health ID for every Indian will be available. The health ID will be different than the Aadhar Card, and will be much akin to a digital key to a person’s healthcare records.

Right from the kinds of medical tests a person has taken, to their doctor’s consultations, the online repository will be a digital safe to pertinent information.

The news comes just two days after PM Narendra Modi spoke at the United Nations General Assembly and announced that India has created a DNA vaccine for COVID-19, available for all above the age of 12.

The Facts of the Matter

Claiming that India has entered an ‘extraordinary phase’, Prime Minister Modi launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission under which a digital health ID will be given to people. The unique digital ID will be containing all the health records of the person and will act as a centralised repository of health records.

Co-WIN’s Value in Vaccination Drive ‘Huge’: PM Modi

PM Modi gave his address on a video conference and started with lauding the Co-WIN platform. PM Modi said that the system is massive and helps with ‘registration to certification’, in the current ongoing vaccination drive.

Underlining that India has so far administered 86 crore vaccine doses since January, PM Modi claimed that the platform played a ‘huge role’. PM Modi also spoke briefly about other technology initiatives and was quoted saying, “The way technology is being deployed in governance reforms today is unprecedented.

Current Digital Infrastructure has ‘Ration to Prashasan’: PM Modi

Highlighting the fact that there’s no widely connected infrastructure in the world where 130 crore Aadhar Numbers, 80 crore internet users, and 43 crore Jan Dhan bank accounts are all seamlessly connected. He said that the current digital infrastructure is opening the access of everything from ‘ration to prashasan’ (ration to administration).

All You Need to Know about the Digital Health ID

The new Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will be connecting health solutions of hospitals with each other. The aim of the mission is to increase ease of living and make hospital processes further simplified. The new mission will give every Indian a digital health ID where their health record will be safe and accessible.

The project has so far been tested in its pilot phase across 6 Union Territories. The complete rollout will ease the access into the health records of citizens consensually and make its exchange seamless and transparent. Reportedly, the health account will be linked to a person’s mobile number and Aadhaar Number.

PM Modi also linked World Tourism Day, which is observed every year on September 27. According to the Prime Minister, when a nation’s health infrastructure is strengthened and integrated, it also strengthens the tourism sector.
