In a rib-tickling incident, a police dog identified as ‘Officer Ice’ was recently accused of stealing a sandwich of a fellow police officer, with mugshot of the alleged accused dog going viral on social media. The incident was reported from Wyandotte city in Michigan where Officer Ice has been serving for 11 years, and has been responsible for the seizure of various banned substance. However, recently, Officer Ice found himself on the other side, after he was accused of stealing a fellow officer’s sandwich.
The Wyandotte Police Department, Michigan, took to Facebook and sought public opinion as to what they should do with the allegations against the K-9 unit. “The incident happened two days ago at the station. Ofc. Barwig was eating lunch in the breakroom when he was called to assist with a person in the WPD jail,” the department in its Facebook post reported.
“He quickly jumped into service, leaving his half eaten lunch on the table. A short while later Barwig and another officer returned to the breakroom only to find Ofc. Ice leisurely strolling out of the room licking his chops,” the Facebook post read.
Meanwhile, the netizens came in support of the veteran K-9 unit, claiming that the goodest boy was falsely implicated. “Sounds like entrapment to me. The case should be thrown out,” a comment read.
The Facts of the Matter
Nothing enrages a police department than one of their own officers indulging into a deplorable act. However, what happens when an officer of a police department, who is widely decorated and has been responsible for some important busts, gets involved in something shady?
Well, something similar is happening at the Wyandotte Police Department in Michigan city. The department recently took to Facebook and shared a recent update, seeking public opinion about what to do with one of their own embroiled in a theft.
Meet Officer Ice, Accused of Committing Theft
The officer in question is identified as Officer Ice, a police service dog, who has 11 years of service behind him. Recently, the dog was with his fellow officer who was having lunch beside him. When the fellow officer left the room for something important, and returned, he saw that the sandwich he was having, had disappeared, and Officer Ice was licking his chops.
Police Department Gives Detailed Version of “Theft”
Giving a detailed version of the events, the Wyandotte Police Department, Michigan, in its Facebook post wrote – “The incident happened two days ago at the station. Ofc. Barwig was eating lunch in the breakroom when he was called to assist with a person in the WPD jail. He quickly jumped into service, leaving his half eaten lunch on the table.”
“A short while later Barwig and another officer returned to the breakroom only to find Ofc. Ice leisurely strolling out of the room licking his chops. Barwig’s entire lunch was gone….disappeared, vanished!” the post further read.
Officer Ice “Not Cooperating With Investigation”
In a part-cheeky, part-witty Facebook post, the department claimed that Officer Ice has “invoked his fifth amendment right to remain silent, and “quite frankly is not cooperating with the investigation”. The department also added that Officer Ice has been known for rummaging through trashcans within his reach.
It should be noted that Officer Ice has been one of the most veteran dog units in the department. The decorated German Shepard has assisted agencies in hundreds of drug busts over the course of years. A detective of the department gave an insight into Officer Ice’s career and said, “He found over a kilo of heroin in a wall in a house in Detroit. Found stolen car suspects that fled. He has found multiple people hiding.”
Facebook Users Extend Support for Officer Ice
Meanwhile, netizens on Facebook extended their support for Officer Ice, claiming that the police dog was falsely implicated. “Release that innocent officer! Do I need to organize a protest outside headquarters,” a Facebook user wrote. “100% innocent! How dare you slander his good name!”, another commented. “Clearly innocent until proven guilty without a doubt. Meanwhile, I suggest better snacks,” a third user quipped.
