An incident during a routine traffic enforcement has led to serious allegations against law enforcement officers in Bhopal
Assault Allegations Surface Following Helmet Violation Stop
BHOPAL – A 33-year-old woman has filed a formal complaint against two policemen from Awadhpuri police station, alleging misconduct and physical assault during a routine vehicle checking drive. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, has prompted an investigation and administrative action against the officers involved.
According to the woman’s statement, Head Constable Atul Chouksey allegedly slapped her multiple times after she protested a fine issued for not wearing a helmet. Constable Jitendra reportedly recorded the incident on video while remaining silent during the altercation.
“The woman had an altercation with Head Constable Atul Choukse over a fine for not wearing a helmet,” explained Anjana Dubey, Station House Officer (SHO) at Mahila Thana (Women’s Police Station). “She alleged that Head Constable Choukse misbehaved and slapped her while another constable, Jitendra, shot a video of the incident.”
Conflicting Accounts and Dual Complaints
The case has grown more complex with both parties filing complaints against each other. The woman claims she initially attempted to register a complaint at Awadhpuri police station but was unsuccessful. Instead, police officials registered a case against her for allegedly obstructing government work.
Following this development, the woman escalated her concerns to senior police officials, resulting in formal action against the officers.
Official Response and Disciplinary Action
In response to the allegations, authorities have taken preliminary disciplinary measures. Both officers have been “line attached” – a procedural action that removes them from active duty pending investigation.
“Senior authorities have been informed of this and an FIR has been registered. The matter is under investigation,” stated SHO Dubey in an official statement to the media.
The First Information Report (FIR) against the two police officers has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 296, 115(2), and 3(5).
