Saturday morning was surprising for many people in the nation. But the ones who were most surprised were Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena and Congress Party Leaders who felt betrayed by Nationalist Congress Party.

In a surprising turn of events, BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis returned to chair the Chief Minister post again after NCP came forward to give its support to BJP to form a government. The BJP’s political game took a sharp turn when a faction of politicians from NCP broke from their party and came forward to extend their support to BJP to form a coalition government.

This comes after NCP leader Sharad Pawar announced on Friday that they will be forming a coalition government with Shiv Sena and Congress and the government will be led by Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray as chief minister of the state.

However, in a tweet made by him, Sharad Pawar claims that the decision to form the government with BJP was of his nephew (Ajit Pawar) and that he has no take in this.

The tweet read, “Ajit Pawar’s decision to support the BJP to form the Maharashtra Government is his personal decision and not that of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). We place on record that we do not support or endorse this decision of his.”

However, the facts seem to be a little different:

The turn of events took place just when deliberations between Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena seemingly reached the final stage on Friday. The three parties agreed to form an alliance government with each other and had concluded that Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray would be the Permanent Chief Minister without any rotational agreement.

The game which turned upside down after the election results came, when Shiv Sena decided to withdraw their support from BJP to form a government, was turned back by BJP on Saturday morning.

As reported by The Economic Times, this is the timeline of major events that decided the fate of the Maharashtra Government in one night.

At around 11.45 on Friday nights, the deal between Ajit Pawar and BJP finalised to form an alliance government.

Within a few minutes at 11.55 Pm Friday, Fadnavis had a word with party personnel and asked for swearing-in as the CM of the state before anyone in Sena-NCP-Congress comes to know and stakes claim.

After due deliberation, the news was conveyed to the Governor, who, at around 12.30 a.m. Saturday cancelled his travel out of Mumbai for the proceeding and swearing-in ceremony

By 02.10 a.m, Secretary to Governor was asked told to submit an order of renovation, rocking the President’s Rule at 5.47. He was further asked to make arrangements for the swearing-in to be conducted at 6.30 a.m.

By 2.30 a.m, Secretary reverted that he will submit the file within two hours and advises 7.30 a.m. for swearing-in for arrangements were to be made early morning on Saturday.

On early morning Saturday, by 5.30 a.m: Both Ajit Pawar and Fadnavis arrived at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.

President’s Rule got revoked at 5.47 a.m.

7.50 a.m: Swearing in starts by Governor B.S. Koshiyari and Devendra Fadnavis got re-appointed as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra with Ajit Pawar being appointed as Deputy Chief Minister.
