The 93rd Oscars will be historic one as the year will see most number of female directors nominated for the Best Director category. For the first time, in the history of Oscars, two women were nominated in the best director category: Chloe Zhao for Nomadland and Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman. Clinical director David Fincher’s Mank led the nominations with 10 nominations including the best picture, director and actor.
This year the Academy gave a positive nod to a diverse group of actors for the lead actor category. Riz Ahmed, Chadwick Boseman, Steven Yuen were all included in the list of best actor nominations.
Meanwhile, streaming platform Netflix, who led the pack in the 78th Golden Globe Awards, also picked up the greatest number of nominations 35 in total. Although the streaming platform received 24 nominations last year as well, it only ended up receiving 2 wins, and would be looking forward to bag a greater number of wins this year. The streaming platform has 3 films in the best picture category.
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will hold the Oscars ceremony on April 25.
