Pro-Khalistani outfit ‘Sikh for Justice’ is suspected of being behind the Mohali attack. A rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) was fired at Punjab Police’s intelligence wing in Mohali on Monday. The grenade failed to explode. However, a glass door and window panes were damaged. No casualties were reported.
The attack on such an important building has raised serious concerns. A suspected voice message to Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, points fingers at SFJ. In the voice message, SFJ general counsel Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has claimed the responsibility of the attack. However, Punjab police is yet to confirm the plausibility of the message.
Similar Incidents Reported in the Last Few Days
The Mohali attack is not an isolated incident. Just three days ago, four suspected terrorists were arrested with IEDs at Karnal in Haryana. Also, around 15 days ago, an explosive device was found near Burail jail in Chandigarh.

‘Sikh for Justice’ Prime Suspect
The suspected voice message to Himachal Pradesh chief minister brings SFJ under the radar. In the yet-to-be-verified message, SFJ general counsel, Pannu, has claimed responsibility for the attacks. He also claims responsibility for raising Khalistani flags at the Dharamshala assembly complex.
He goes on to warn the CM of “consequences” if he does not conduct the referendum 20-20 on June 6, 2022. June 6 is the day of voting in Himachal Pradesh. Pannu warns the Himachal CM of similar grenade attacks in Shimla.
Findings of Preliminary Investigation
The building lacked cameras. Hence, the police is gathering relevant footage from nearby areas.
In the preliminary investigation, two car-borne individuals have raised suspicion. A swift Dzire can be seen outside the building just before the attack.
NIA Might Probe the Attack
According to reports, the NIA might investigate the attack. Punjab police is in touch with the NIA’s terror unit. A team from Delhi may soon be sent to Mohali.
According to the NIA, Khalistani groups are active in the region.
