One army man and one terrorist were reported dead in an ongoing encounter in Pulwama. The violence-prone region, which was in the news in February 2019 has once again emerged as a region where the militants and the Indian army soldiers are fighting it out. The incident comes straight from the Hanjin village in Rajpora.

On Friday, an Army jawan sacrificed his life while being engaged in an encounter against terrorists in the Pulwama district of Jammu & Kashmir. A police official with insights into the matter claimed that the security forces launched a search operation in the Rajpora area of Pulwama and created a cordon. The security forces sprang into action after it received information about the presence of terrorists in the region.

Increasing Terror Activities in J&K

The incident comes a few days after a Special Police Officer was gunned down along with his family by Jaish-E-Mohammed militants. In the past week or so, the valley of J&K has been witnessing increasing terrorism activities. On Sunday, June 27, the Indian Air Force operated area of the J&K Airport was rocked by two explosions by drones. Since then, J&K have been recording consistent drone activities.

The Ongoing Encounter

Shifting our focus back to the ongoing encounter, the J&K security forces launched a search operation in Pulwama, which triggered massive gunfire on both the sides. The search operation was initiated after number of inputs confirmed terrorists had taken refuge in the Hanjin village in Pulwama.

Terrorists Open Fire on Indian Men, Receive Retaliation

When the joint security forces started off its cordoning operation and eventually reached the hideout of the suspected terrorists, they were met with heavy firing. The reports are claiming that the security forces also gave answer and retaliated with gunfire. In the gunfire that ensued, one jawan of the Indian Army lost his life and a terrorist also died. The jawan was taken to the nearby hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

While more details are awaited, several reports are confirming the fact that as many as 3-4 terrorists are trapped in their hideouts and the security forces are tightening the cordon.

3 Terrorists Killed, 2 Army men Injured in Kulgam Encounter

In a related news, 3 terrorists were killed in the J&K’s Kulgam district in an encounter than ensued on Wednesday, June 31. Further, 2 soldiers from the security forces were also reported injured in the encounter. The encounter was a major win as one terrorist was reported to have surrendered after the encounter.

The encounter started in the wee hours of June 31, Wednesday in Kulgam’s Chimmer village. The encounter was triggered after the security forces initiated a search and cordon operation. While information as to who the terrorists were are still classified, an India Today report claimed that the identity of the dead terrorists and their affiliations are being ascertained.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said that the search and cordon operation was kicked off after confirmed intel of armed militants hiding in Dadal village was reported.
