In Pune, a live-in couple lived the life of ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, as they went on a crime spree where they stole as many as 10 motorcycles to be able to pay off their home loan. For the unversed, Bunty Aur Babli is a 2005 crime-comedy film where a couple goes on a crime spree to support their lavish lifestyle, before being arrested.

According to reports, both the accused had divorced their respective partners, and were living together in Pune. The couple in question were identified as 36-year-old Vikram Ram Kalekar and 31-year-old Anuradha Vivek Dandavate.

In a twisted tale of love, money, and crime, Vikram, who worked at a private firm and earned a decent ₹40,000 salary, had bought a flat and took a housing loan during his married life. However, after getting into a live-in relationship with Anuradha, he struggled to keep up with the financial demands of his swanky new lifestyle, and was left with no choice but to turn to a life of crime to pay off his debts.

The couple’s plan was to steal motorbikes over the weekend, which they could easily sell off. They targeted bikes in Raigad district and to avoid raising suspicion, the couple posed as husband and wife, with Anuradha accompanying Vikram on the heist.

The Facts of the Matter

In the bustling city of Pune, a live-in couple decided to take their love for each other and their mounting debts to the next level, by unleashing their inner “Bunty Aur Babli” and embarking on a crime spree that would make even the most seasoned criminals blush.

Vikram Ram Kalekar and Anuradha Vivek Dandavate, both divorced and living together, were not your average lovebirds. They were a duo of misfits, who believed that stealing motorbikes was the solution to all their financial problems. With Kalekar’s familiarity with the Raigad district, and Dandavate’s unwavering support, they made for a deadly duo, a match made in crime heaven.

Lavish Lifestyle & House Loan Takes Couple Down Dark Path

Kalekar, who worked at a private firm, was earning a decent salary, but his lavish lifestyle, coupled with a housing loan that he had taken during his married life, left him gasping for financial air. His lady love, Dandavate, saw his plight and decided to take matters into her own hands. The couple hatched a plan to steal motorbikes, which they could sell off to make quick cash.

They picked weekends as their time of operation, when the streets were empty, and the motorcycles were just begging to be taken for a ride. Dandavate played her part to perfection, by accompanying Kalekar on his escapades, pretending to be his wife, and avoiding any undue suspicion.

For six months, the couple managed to stay one step ahead of the law, indulging in their criminal activities.

Cops Zero-In on Couple, Catch Them Red Handed

However, little did they know that they were being watched and followed, that their every move was being monitored by the eagle-eyed police, who were piecing together a trail of evidence.

The police investigation eventually led them to the couple’s door, where they discovered CCTV footage of the duo in action. The footage was damning evidence, showing the couple stealing bikes. On Sunday, the police laid a trap, and caught the couple red-handed in Rasayani where they had come to steal another bike.

During investigation, it was revealed that the couple stole as many as 10 bikes in just six months. After the duo’s arrest, the police were able to recover eight of the 10 stolen bikes, and the couple were charged with multiple charges of the IPC pertaining to theft.
