Maharashtra Cyber Police take swift action following complaint from BJP’s social media coordinator

Cyber Police Detain Pune Resident Following Investigation

Maharashtra Nodal Cyber Police have arrested a 25-year-old Pune resident for allegedly harassing BJP leader and state cabinet minister Pankaja Munde through obscene messages and inappropriate phone calls over an extended period.

The suspect, identified as Amol Kale from Pune’s Bhosari area, was apprehended following a digital investigation that traced the harassment back to his devices. Originally from Parli in Beed district, Kale was brought to Mumbai for further questioning after his arrest.

Complaint Filed by BJP Social Media Coordinator

The investigation began after Nikhil Bhamre, social media coordinator for BJP’s Maharashtra unit, filed a formal complaint with the Mumbai Nodal Cyber Police. Following the complaint, authorities registered an FIR under Sections 78 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.

“The complaint detailed a pattern of inappropriate communications directed at Minister Munde,” said a senior cyber police official who requested anonymity. “Our technical team was able to establish a clear digital trail leading to the suspect.”

Suspect Confesses During Initial Questioning

During preliminary interrogation, Kale reportedly admitted to making the harassing calls and sending the inappropriate messages. Following his court appearance in Mumbai, the magistrate remanded him to police custody to enable a more comprehensive investigation.

“We need to establish whether the accused acted alone or had accomplices,” explained the investigating officer. “We’re also working to understand the motivation behind these actions, which targeted a prominent public figure.”

Rising Concerns About Digital Harassment of Public Figures

This incident highlights growing concerns about online harassment and digital safety, particularly for public figures and political leaders. Cybersecurity experts note that the case demonstrates the importance of robust digital protection measures for individuals in public office.

“Public figures increasingly face targeted harassment in digital spaces,” noted Dr. Sneha Kapoor, a cybersecurity analyst. “This case shows how important it is for law enforcement to respond quickly to such complaints, regardless of who the victim might be.”

Maharashtra Police Emphasize Zero Tolerance for Cyber Harassment

The Maharashtra Cyber Police Department has reiterated its commitment to addressing online harassment with a zero-tolerance approach. Officials stressed that digital harassment constitutes a serious offense under both the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.

“This arrest should serve as a deterrent to anyone considering similar actions,” said Joint Commissioner Vijay Patil. “Digital platforms do not provide anonymity for criminal behavior, and we have the technical capabilities to identify and prosecute offenders.”

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities expected to file a detailed chargesheet once the technical analysis of all devices is complete.
