The accused has been identified as 38-year-old man Vishal Kumar who’s a resident of Sherpur village in Jalandhar, about 60 kilometers from Ludhiana. The FIR was filed by the police after the victim’s mother made a complaint at the police station, alleging that the man had threatened the victim to not talk about the incident to anyone. The police have booked the man under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and sections from the Indian Penal Code.

Background

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, Ludhiana leads the state’s districts in crimes against women. Ludhiana is one of the most populous districts in the state and is also an industrial hub, referred by the BBC as Indian Manchester once.
