A Tamil Nadu-based female cop, Pushparani, is inspiring locals to have a good health by cycling 6 km to work every day. The 45-year-old lady cop G Pushparani prompts interesting reactions on the streets as she pedals through to her work dressed in her khakhi-uniform.

While some look at her wondering why she feels the need to cycle every day to work, others look at their own sticking tummies, and contemplate whether they should start riding bicycles every day to work. One thing is for sure, the female cop turns heads thanks to her unique approach for fitness and inspiring locals.

A senior-inspector posted with Flower Bazaar traffic investigation, the 45-year-old lady cop can in fact go by the traditional means of transport and opt for a nice jeep or a fast two-wheeler. However, for the past 23 years, this lady cop has been riding cycles – be it rain or sunshine.

Although riding bicycle keeps her fit, it is also her source of internal strength and inspiration. In a TOI report, she was quoted saying, “My father Govindasamy, who is a retired SI, used to cycle to work. He taught me to pedal safely. After that I have not let go of my cycle.”

Meet G Pushparani

The lady cop has been identified as G Pushparani, an SI posted with the Flower Bazaar traffic investigation.

Every morning, as the 45-year-old lady cop leaves her home and makes her way to her police station, she turns heads. The reason? Her unique mode of transportation.

Although she can have a jeep or a fancy two-wheeler, this senior cop has been riding a bicycle to work for the last 23 years of her professional life.

Started as Grade II Constable

A 1997 batch police officer, Pushparani was recruited from the grade II constable level in the Tamil Nadu Special Police and then served with the Armed Reserve. In the first few years of her job, she used to cycle every day to work when posted at the Pudupet Armed Reserve.

Today, her office is some 3 km away from her home, and she cycles all the way from and to her home every day, rain or shine.

Effect on Locals

The effect is clear on locals, as some scratch their heads, wondering what is the need for the senior cop to ride a bicycle, while others are forced to take a look at their fitness, and wonder whether they should do the same. One thing is clear, Pushparani’s novel approach is simply unignorable.
