On Sunday, India’s badminton player PV Sindhu Clinched the Singapore Title by beating China’s Wang Zhi Yi 21-9, 11-21, 21-15. The multiple Olympic medal winner from Hyderabad lifted the Singapore Open Super 500 trophy by outplaying China’s Wang Zhi Yi in a hard-fought final on July 16.

In the intense clash, Sindhu managed to outwit her Chinese counterpart and emerged victorious. Sindhu defeated the 22-year-old badminton player from China who’s the current Asian Championships gold medalist.

The two-time Olympic medal winner won her first game comprehensively with a score of 21-9. However, her 22-year-old opponent fought back ferociously and clinched the second game 11-21. Like most thrilling final encounters, the match went into a decider set and Sindhu managed to hold her nerves.

The Arjuna Award winner exhibited great technique in the most crucial moments of the game, and took an early advantage. While Wang Zhi Yi did give a tough fight, it was Sindhu who took the decider and the match home by scoring 21-15.

Sindhu has been remarkable in 2022, with Singapore Open 2022 being her third title for the year. Earlier, she won the Swiss Open BWF Super 300 and the Syed Modi International titles.

Playing against China’s Wang Zhi Yi, Sindhu won a hard-fought match 21-9, 11-21, 21-15. By clinching the title, Sindhu has now three titles in the 2022 season.

After beating Japan’s Saena Kawakami 21-15,21-7 in a brisk 32-minute semi-final, Sindhu was playing against the reigning Asian Championships gold medalist Wang Zhi Yi. The 24-year-old Chinese shuttler gave Sindhu a tough fight, and the latter managed to outplay and outwit Wang Zhi.

In the first match, PV Sindhu showed her dominating self, conceding the first two points and winning eleven initially. Zhi tried to make a comeback and won two more points. However, Sindhu never looked too much in trouble and won the set 21-9.

If the first match was a PV Sindhu show, her opponent showed that it won’t be a cake walk for Sindhu.

Wang Zhi Yi made a dominating come back, leading 6-0 initially. Sindhu scored some points here and there, but her opponent bounced back brilliantly. The Chinese shuttler did not let herself concede many points at crucial junctures in the game. Second match went to Wang Zhi Yi 21-11.

Fans of badminton got game worth calling a final. In the decider, Sindhu won the first point, giving a foreshadowing for the rest of the game. What followed was Sindhu and Wang Zhi giving each other tough fight, not letting either take a long lead.

Sindhu was still leading 5-4 and she immediately shifted gears. A 28-shot rally also emerged. Wang Zhi never let Sindhu much of a breathing space despite Sidhu leading 14-11. Eventually, Sindhu managed to hold her nerves and took home the decider and the final match 21-15.
