Amid the ongoing racism row, Dance Deewane 3 host Raghav Juyal issued a clarification after he drew flak from Assam CM over his racist rhetoric. Reportedly, a video of Raghav introducing a Northeastern contestant in the show has surfaced in which the host spoke in gibberish. The host’s gibberish was interpreted by netizens as him mocking the sensibilities and language of people from North India. When the judges – Madhuri Dixit, Remo D’Souza, ask him what he meant, he said that the judges may not be able to understand the Chinese of the contestant, but they will surely understand her dance.

The smalls snippet of the host speaking in gibberish went viral, and drew criticism. Several netizens labelled the host as a racist, and condemned his act. Meanwhile, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma called Raghav’s actions “shameful and unacceptable”. Later, the Dance Deewane 3 host issued his own clarification.

Background

According to a report, as many as 4 lakh persons migrated from Northeast to Mainland India between the years 2005 and 2010. Although the numbers may have increased thanks to the opportunities present in mainland India, the racism, discrimination, and mockery faced by people from northeast continues to be a problem.  The national capital itself has become a wasteland of racism for northeast individuals with reports claiming that 78 out of 100 North-Easterners face racial discrimination in Delhi.

The problem is so rampant and deep rooted, that it’s normalized beyond redemption. From calling North Easterners ‘momos’ and ‘chinkis’, to not providing them accommodation, people across the nation have been guilty of committing acts of racism that they may not even know.

Recently, host of Dance Deewane 3 was accused of such racist behavior.
