Comedian actor Rajpal Yadav recently opened up about the Jethalal’s role in the popular comedy show Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah his financial crisis and several things. Known for his impeccable comic timing and giving comic characters his own spin, Yadav has been seen in numerous comedy films such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Action Replayy, Hungama, Malamaal Weekly and more. However, many don’t know that Yadav was offered to play the important character of Jethalal in Taarak Mehta, nor many are aware of his financial woes.

Since its inception, comedy show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah enjoys a following unlike most comedy shows. The show has been running for the past 13 years and has no plans of leaving the 8 PM slot on SAB TV. The show premiered in 2008 and tells a comedic account of the lives of families living in a fictional society called the Gokuldham Society.

Rajpal Yadav was offered role of Jethalal
The show primary focuses on the life and troubles of Jethalal – a Kutchi businessman – played by veteran comedy actor Dilip Joshi. However, the role was first offered to actor Rajpal Yadav. Recently, Yadav was asked whether he holds any regrets for not doing the show. To this, the actor said-
“No, no. The Jethalal character is now identified with a very good actor. I consider every character a particular artist’s character.”

He further said how in the entertainment business, he doesn’t want to fit himself in another artist’s character.
“Humlog ek manoranjan ki market mein hai toh main kisi kalakaar ke kirdaar mein apne kirdaar ko fit nahi karna chahta. Toh mujhe aisa lagta hai ki jo bhi kirdaar bane, jo Rajpal ke liye bane, unko karne ka saubhagya mile, lekin kisi doosre kalakaar ke rachaye basaye kirdaar ko kabhi nibhaane ka mauka nahi mile. (In the world of entertainment, I don’t want to fit myself in a character that’s been done by someone else. I hope I get the good fortune of doing the roles that are written for me. However, I don’t want the chance to play the character which another actor has already done),”

“When life seems tough, mission is easy”: Yadav’s Wisdom
Yadav also opened up about his initial days of struggle in the Bollywood film industry. He said how when one reaches Mumbai, they share autos with others to go to places.
“You don’t have money for autos, you walk to Juhu, Lokhandwala, Adarsh Nagar, even Bandra, carrying your photo with you, looking for success. If life seems tough, mission is easy, if life seems easy, mission becomes tough.”

“Whole world was with me”: Yadav opens up on financial crisis
Yadav was also asked about a brief period of financial crisis he faced and if his fellow peers from the film industry supported him or not. He shared his positive perspective and said-
“I feel everyone should keep their doors open for others… How would I be here if people didn’t help me out? The whole world was with me, I had my beliefs to keep me going, I knew that I had all the support I needed.”
For the uninitiated, Rajpal Yadav was sentenced to jail in 2018. The Delhi High Court had ruled a 3-month jail imprisonment to Yadav as he had failed to repay a Rs. 5 crores loan his company took to produce a film.
