A Delhi resident was arrested by the police for duping over 100 women of lakhs of rupees on pretext of marriage. The man had been duping women left and right by creating a fake matrimonial profile on matrimony sites. The 35-year-old accused used to pose as an extremely wealthy single man looking for woman to get marriage.

After luring the women and earning their trust, the man used to dupe the woman of lakhs of rupees by asking money for “business deals”. The incident was brought to the police’s attention after a female doctor from AIIMS filed a complaint in the Cyber Cell of the Delhi Police against a man who duped her off Rs. 15 lakhs.

The police swung into investigation and details from Jeevansathi.com, bank accounts and other platforms led the police to the accused. It was revealed during the investigation that the accused had created not one but multiple profiles and was able to dupe over 100 women across the country. The accused was arrested by the Delhi Police Cyber Police Station (South District).

The Facts of the Matter

In 2011 Bollywood film “Ladies VS Ricky Bahl”, Ricky, played by Ranveer Singh, is a conman who dupes women until he meets the wrath of three women who unite against him and avenge all the women Ricky duped. In Delhi, a 35-year-old married man also duped hundreds of women on the pretext of marriage. He too received the justice for his misdeeds, only in a less Bollywood-esque style that was shown in ladies VS Ricky Bahl.

According to reports, the accused created fake profiles on matrimonial sites and used to lure women into giving him money for “business deals”. The man used to pose as an extremely wealthy single man who’s looking to get married. Over the course of his con, he duped over 100 women over lakhs of rupees.

Woman Files Complaint Against Accused

The man could have continued with his con had it not ben a woman who approached the police and filed a complaint against the accused. Earlier in March this year, a female doctor from AIIMS filed a complaint against the man and alleged that he duped her of on the tune of Rs. 15 lakhs.

The woman in her complaint alleged that the man duped her on the pretext of needing the money for his business. The couple had already been talking for long about their marriage and had been exchanging texts and had been speaking on calls. They met on a matrimonial profile, the woman’s complaint mentioned.

How the Conman Got Arrested

The cyber wing of the police swung into action and started collecting details of the accused. This included collecting data from the jeevansathi account, bank accounts and other related avenues where the accused left a digital footprint.

After weeks of investigation, the accused was tracked and the Delhi Police Cyber Police Station (South District) arrested him.

The M.O. of Real Life ‘Ricky Bahl’

The accused’s M.O. (Modus Operandi) was simple. He used to create fake profiles on matrimonial sites where he posed as a rich single man without a family. He used to falsely claim of having a degree in engineering and a master’s in business with business across the country that made him Rs. 30-40 lakhs yearly.

The man used to fake having a luxurious lifestyle especially when he used to be on video call with the women. When the women used to fall in his trap, he would meet them in a BMW car with a VIP plate to further establish his credibility.

Gradually, the man used to spill beans and used to ask for money for “business expansion” or some other urgent needs in business.

Accused Studied Till Class 12, BMW Found in Possession,

After the arrest, the police revealed that the accused is originally a resident of Chhattisgarh but was residing in Odisha lately. The police seized a BMW car, 9 ATM cards, a luxury watch, four SIM cards from his possession. During interrogation, the accused revealed getting married back in 2015 and having a three-year-old daughter. The accused had studied only till class 12.
