Bollywood actor Rhea Chakraborty is once again making buzz after anti-drugs agency NCB filed draft charges against her and her brother Showik Chakraborty in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Along with Rhea and Showik, Sushant Singh Rajput’s manager, cook and roommate have also been named by the anti-drugs agency.

Earlier on Wednesday, NCB’s special public prosecutor Atul Sarpande filed the draft charges against the alleged accused under multiple sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act including Section 8 (c) read with Section 20 (b), 22, 27, 27A, 28, 29 and 30.

For the unversed, all the above mention sections of the NDPS act pertain to sale, purchase, consumption, production, manufacture, and transport of narcotic drug, use of cannabis and psychotropic substances, and harboring offenders, along with abetment and criminal conspiracy.

According to the anti-drugs agency, drugs were not seized from 21 accused, including Rhea Chakraborty, Siddharth Pithani, and Showik. However, various quantities of drugs were seized from other parties.

The case dates back as far as 2020 after Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide in June 14 and chats with his partner Rhea Chakraborty indicated involvement of drugs in the case. In September 2020, the Chakraborty siblings were arrested by the NCB.

No drug-related case in the last decade or so has received as many eyeballs and tractions like the Sushant Singh Rajput death case which later turned into Sushant Singh Rajput drug case. More than two years after his untimely demise in June 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput continues to trend on Twitter with his fans using #justiceforssr and #ssrians hashtags to highlight alleged foul play involving his death.

New Development in SSR Drugs Case

Now, another development has emerged in the matter as anti-drugs agency Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has filed draft charges against Rajput’s partner Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty and others for their alleged involvement in the matter.

What Next?

According to Press Trust of India, NCB special public prosecutor Atul Sarpende said how the court scheduled to frame charges against the accused initially, but then a few of the accused moved to court to discharge the applications. The court will now frame charges after taking in account the discharge pleas by the accused.

Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik are charged with multiple provisions of the NDPS act including Section 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(A), 22, 27, 27A, 28, 29 and 30.

Rhea Chakraborty Charged for Consumption and Procuring Narcotics

According to reports, it has been proposed that Rhea and Showik be charged for consumption of narcotic substances and procuring and paying for the same for late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Earlier on Wednesday, both Rhea and Showik were present before the court and the matter will be heard next on July 12.

June 14, 2020 – Sushant Singh Rajput found dead at his Bandra residence. Probe kicks off.

July 25 – KK Singh, Sushant Singh Rajput’s father, files FIR against Rhea Chakraborty, accusing her of abetting his son’s death.

July 31 – A case of money laundering registered against Chakraborty. FIR by family stated that Chakraborty siphoned Rs. 15 crores from Sushant’s bank account.

August 19 – Case handed over to CBI by Supreme Court.

August 26 – NCB registers case against Rhea Chakraborty under various sections of NDPS Act.

September 4 – Showik Chakraborty arrested by NCB.

September 8 – Rhea Chakraborty arrested by NCB.

September 11 – NDPS court rejects bail applications of Rhea Chakraborty and other accused.

October 7 – Bombay High Court grants bail to Rhea Chakraborty.
