A Swiggy delivery boy from Bengaluru was left with stitches after he was robbed & assaulted due to denying free food. While the memory of Zomato boy’s alleged assault over a makeup artist is still fresh in people’s minds, a new incident emerged where a sole breadwinner of family was mugged by 4-youths in Bengaluru. The incident was brought to light by Instagram user Waseem.
25-year-old Karthik Hariprasad was on the receiving end for unjustifiable thrashing for just doing his job. The incident, where plight of delivery executives can be understood more deeply, was brought to light by an Instagram user.
Like any other day, food delivery executive was on his way to deliver a meal in Bengaluru. Unfortunately, little did Hariprasad know that he was about to walk in to a world of pain. When he reached the location where 4 men had ordered food from the platform, he was allegedly cornered by them.
Men attempted to cancel order to get free food
According to Hariprasad, the men waited for their order for a while and in a deliberate attempt to get the food for free, they tried cancelling the order. When Hariprasad asked the 4 men for the due money, they refused and asked him to give them the food for free. When Hariprasad objected to this, saying that he would rather give it to someone needy or at a temple, the 4 men got triggered.

Abusive argument turns violent
The situation escalated from that point and a verbal confrontation turned into an abusive argument. Later, the 4 men left Hariprasad injured by overpowering him and attacking him with jabs, punches and stones. The men also caused damage to Hariprasad’s vehicle and helmet.

Fellow delivery boys rushed to Hariprasad’s aid
Fortunately, the food delivery man was spotted getting thrashed by fellow food delivery men and they rushed to his rescue. Seeing a commotion of rescuers, the 4 men fled the scene. Later, Hariprasad was rushed to the hospital and he was given stitches on his head.
According to Magadi police station inspector, the food delivery later went to Chittoor district to attend his sister’s wedding and will be lodging a police complaint once he returns on Wednesday. According to The News Minute, the foodtech major Swiggy will be working with the police and will be giving the police the information of the 4 youths so that they can start the investigation.
Swiggy asks man to encash health insurance
Further, Swiggy has also come forward to help Hariprasad with financial assistance he may need for legal proceedings. The foodtech major has also insisted Hariprasad to encash the health insurance it provides to employers.

In related news, Dance India Dance fame Biki Das was injured in a road accident. The second-runner up of the fourth edition of popular dance reality show started working as a food delivery boy due to lack of other work opportunities.
On Friday, when Biki was out to deliver food from Jodhpur Park to Ranikuthi, South Kolkata, his two-wheeler was hit by another vehicle. On June 5, his wife Sangeeta took to Lake police station where she filed an FIR. According to reports, upon meeting with the accident, Biki was rushed to the hospital as he required immediate medical help.
The dancing sensation’s ribs were broken after the accident and he also sustained some internal injuries. However, according to the doctors he was out of fatal danger and is under complete rest.
Prior to working as a delivery boy, Biki had amassed a following for himself and had started working as a dance instructor and also performed at several stage shows. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 induced lockdown curbed all other avenues from where he could earn money and he had to resort to the option of working as a food delivery boy.
