The context of the caseÂ
The feud between Hrithik and Kangana, who were co-actors in films like Kites and Krrish 3, came into the public eye when Roshan accused Ranaut of cyberbullying and mental harassment. The 42-year-old actor demanded that Ranaut apologize to him and clear the air about their alleged affair that he had continually refuted. Â
The defiant 28-year-old actress claimed that she is not a “dim-witted” teen and denied the charges claimed by Roshan. Ranaut went on to file a counter-suit against Roshan which claimed that Roshan’s lawsuit was his attempt to cover up his affair with Ranaut. The Mumbai Police closed the case later that year due to a lack of evidence. Â
The Roshan-Ranaut spat took another turn when Ranaut referred to the former as her “silly ex” in a news interview. To this, Roshan sent his co-star a legal notice seeking an apology for her defamatory remarks.  Â
Roshan VS Ranaut- “An impersonator sent Ranaut emails”: Hrithik RoshanÂ
In 2016, when the Roshan VS Ranaut feud was at its peak, the former always maintained his position that he never had any relationship with the latter. Roshan went on to file a legal complaint to the Mumbai Police with an allegation that someone was impersonating him and had been sending emails to Ranaut between the years 2013-14 with the help of a fake ID. According to Roshan, an unknown person with the email id-hroshan@email.com was talking to his friends and fans.Â
In his allegation, Roshan also claimed that Ranaut had sent him several absurd emails to him during the course of that year. The cyber police registered the case against the unknown person. Â
On the grounds of Roshan’s allegation, a case under Section 419 of the Indian Penal Code and under 66D of the Information Technology (IT) Act was lodged against the unknown perpetrator. Section 419 of the IPC is for punishment for cheating by personation whereas 66D is for cheating by personation using the computer. Â
Roshan VS Ranaut- Investigation transferred to Crime Intelligence Unit:Â
In December 2020, Hrithik’s lawyer came to the Mumbai Police Commissioner regarding the pending investigation after which the probe was transferred to the Crime Intelligence Unit of the Crime Branch. According to reports, the lawyer said, “There has been no progress in the investigation…We thus request to kindly look in the matter, issue appropriate orders to kindly direct completion of investigation at the earliest.”Â
Roshan VS Ranaut- Where things stand as of now:
On Saturday, Hrithik was summoned by the Crime Intelligence Unit to record his statement in connection to his 2016 complaint about fake emails. Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut reacted to a news article about Roshan’s summon to the CIU and tweeted saying: “Duniya kahan se kahan pahunch gayi magar mera silly ex abhi bhi waheen hai usi modh pe jahan yeh waqt dobara laut ke nahi jane wala (The world has transformed so much but my silly ex is at the same crossroads where the time will never return)”. Â
