Russian businessman Pavel Antov, who was known opposing the Russian President Vladimir Putin, was recently found dead in Odisha under ‘mysterious circumstances’. Pavel’s death is in the long list of those who have opposed Putin in the past, and have either found murdered, or found to have committed suicide or died under mysterious circumstances. Pavel was reportedly visiting India to celebrate his 66th birthday.

Pavel was in the news earlier this year when he criticized Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He had also taken to social media to condemn the missile strikes and had posted, “A girl has been pulled out from under the rubble, the girl’s father appears to have died. The mother is being pulled out with a crane she is trapped under a slab. To tell the truth, it is extremely difficult to call this anything other than terror.”

A business tycoon, Pavel annual earnings were as much as £130 million, as per Forbes Russia. Other than being the biggest manufacture of meat sausages, he was also a deputy in the Vladimir government’s Legislative Assembly.

The 65-year-old died after falling from the third-floor window of his hotel in Odisha. His death comes days after 62-year-old Vladimir Bidenov was also found dead in the same hotel.

Debate Sparks Deaths of Putin Critic

Influential and rich Russian nationals Pavel Antov and Vladimir Bidenov have reportedly died at the same hotel in Odisha, in two days. The deaths have once again sparked a debate on Russian killings, where influential leaders and oligarchs who have opposed President Vladimir Putin, have dropped like flies in the past.

Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported that Pavel Antov, a lawmaker and business tycoon from Russia, died after falling from his room’s balcony. The 65-year-old had come to India to celebrate his birthday.

Pavel had Criticised Putin Over Ukraine Invasion

A sausage-industry tycoon, Pavel had been a vocal critic of President Putin, and had recently come to the spotlight for criticizing Russia’s invasion on Ukraine.

“A girl has been pulled out from under the rubble, the girl’s father appears to have died. The mother is being pulled out with a crane she is trapped under a slab. To tell the truth, it is extremely difficult to call this anything other than terror,” he had shared on social media.

However, later Pavel retracted his statement, and cited “technical error” for the post.

Conflicting Reports

According to reports, Pavel died falling from the third floor of his hotel. Interestingly enough, there have been conflicting reports as to how Pavel died. While local outlets stated that Pavel died after jumping from the roof, Russia’s own counsel said that Pavel “fell from the window”.

Police SP Gives Details

His death came just two days after another Russian national, Vladimir Bidenov, also died in the same hotel. Following the death of Pavel, Vivekananda Sharma, superintendent of police, Rayagada, was quoted by ANI saying, “Four people came to stay in a hotel in Rayagada on December 21. On December 22 morning, one of them (B Vladimir) died. After post-mortem, it was found that he suffered a heart stroke, died and was cremated. His friend, (Pavel Antov) was depressed after his death and he too died on December 25”.
