Just a couple of months after her husband Dilip Kumar passed away, veteran actress Saira Banu is hospitalized with reports making wide claims from low blood pressure issue to heart attack. While the cause of her hospitalized remains widely debated, it’s confirmed that the 77-year-old actress was admitted to Mumbai’s Khar Hinduja hospital earlier this week.
Bollywood industry in some aspects have been ahead of its time. For instance, before the trend of #couplegoals got viral on the Internet, Bollywood had already given the nation the true couple goal in the form of veteran actors Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu.
An India Today report quoted Mrs. Banu who in an interview said, “When he smiled at me and remarked that I was a pretty girl, I could feel my whole being taking wing and flying rapturously. I knew somewhere deep within me that I was going to be his wife.”
The couple stood the test of time and fate to remain together after getting married for 54 years before Mr. Kumar passed away on July 7. And it seems that Mrs. Banu has not taken well to the absence of her husband.
The Facts of the Matter
Recently, the 77-year-old actress was admitted to a Mumbai-based hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. While the official word on how and why the actress had to be admitted is still under covers, news outlets are going far and wide with some claiming that she was admitted due to low blood pressure while others cite a more serious heart attack as the reason.
Reports Ranging from Low BP to Minor Heart Attack
An Indian Express report quoted a hospital official saying that the veteran actress was brought to the hospital because of low BP. The hospital official also claimed that the actress is not in danger and that “there’s nothing to worry about”.
News agency NDTV also reported the cause to be something similar and also gave reference to news agency ANI which claimed that the actress complained of blood pressure issues and was thus admitted to the Hinduja Hospital earlier last week.
However, India Today in one of its reports claimed that the actress was taken to the hospital after she suffered a “minor heart attack”. The report gave the reference of a “family friend” that confirmed the news.
Oher than India Today, news agencies like DNA, India TV, Jan Satta, Zee News and more covered the story with the same premise and claimed that the actress did in fact suffer a heart attack.
“Heart attack nahi thaa, chest congestion was the reason”: Saira Banu Family Friend
Meanwhile, a Hindustan Times report quoted Faisal Farooqui, who has been a close family friend to the family and has also been an unofficial spokesperson.
According to Mr. Farooqui, the actress was taken to the hospital as she complained chest congestion and that she responded fairly well to the treatment.
Mr. Farooqui also claimed that Mrs. Banu was under stress after the passing of her husband of 54 years which added to her health woes. The report explicitly quotes Mr. Farooqui claiming that Mrs. Banu did not suffer from a heart attack.
“Heart attack nahi tha, chest congestion was the reason, and a lot of doctors are implying that it got bad due to the changes in the weather. Teen din se woh hospital mein hain. Log toh kuch bhi bolenge, haqeeqat main bata raha hun. (It was not a heart attack. She has been in the hospital for 3 days. People say all kinds of things, I’m telling the truth),” Mr. Farooqui said.
