Consumer electronics giant Samsung launched the Galaxy M12 in India on March 11. With its 90Hz display, the 6,000 mAH battery, the Rs. 10,999 worth smartphone is sure to redefine the mid-range category. The device is powered by an 8 nm processor and comes with a couple of variants. The 4 GB RAM+64 GB variant is priced at Rs 10,999 and the 6 GB RAM+128 GB storage is priced at Rs 13,499.

The Samsung Galaxy M12 will go on sale on 18 March at 12 PM on popular online smartphone retailer Amazon India. As they always do, the Amazon prime members will be able to jump on the sale 24 hours before the non-members. Other than Amazon India, the phone will also be available on Samsung’s official website and authorized tech dealers. On its launch, Samsung also announced an instant cashback of Rs. 1,000 on all ICICI Bank debit and credit cards, which drops the phone’s price to Rs. 9,999.

This is the golden age of smartphones where an average joy does not need to worry when it comes to buying a mid-range smartphone. Thanks to rapid tech improvements, now smartphone manufacturers don’t cut corners when it comes to designing a mid-range phone. In fact, for smartphone OEMs, the mid-range segment is a massive opportunity where they can offer a robust affordable device, make the Indian customers happy, and mark their presence in the smartphone market.

Samsung has been known for creating wonderful flagships that come in the form of the Galaxy S series and the Note series. But the company in the last few years has turned things around and has been offering some brilliant mid-range smartphones in the form of the M-series. Since M-series was introduced, Indian consumers were able to get their hands on never-seen-before-at-this-price smartphones.

The M-series started with the M30 which was loved by the budget-conscious masses of India. The M30 was followed by the M31 and M31s, each giving some special features to the consumers within the Rs. 18,000 price bracket. To take the legacy of the M-series forward, Samsung today launched the M12.

Now that we have looked at the key specifications that power the Galaxy M12, let’s look at the main features the phone possesses which separates it from the crowd

Immersive Display

In the front and center of the smartphone is the 6.5-inch display which Samsung calls the ‘Infinity-V’ display. The display is one of the only few displays in this price segment to come with a 90Hz refresh rate. For the uninitiated, a better refresh rate means buttery animations and UI transitions that make using the device all the more immersive. So scrolling, jumping from one app to other, consuming media, all feels buttery smooth and lag-free. Add to this the Samsung’s proprietory V-notch, you get a display that makes gaming, consuming media and scrolling through the internet a breeze.

Power-packed performance

The Galaxy M12 comes with Samsung’s own 8 nm Exynos 850 SoC. The Exynos 850 is at par, and even better in some situations than the Snapdragon 655 which powers other mid-range devices in the segment. According to Samsung, the M12 will use the Exynos 850’s processing power to deliver longer screen-on-times and manage uniform heat dissipation.

Coming to another feature that is lucrative to most people who are not power users, the M12 comes with amazing battery life, at least on paper. The M12 comes with a massive 6,000mAh battery which is the biggest in the segment. The smartphone also comes with a 15-W fast charger in the box.

Camera unlike any other midranger

Samsung is known for offering huge numbers of megapixels in their mid-range devices. Their A-series phones have primary cameras anywhere from 32-48-megapixels with a few 12 megapixels ultrawide and 8 megapixels of macro sensors thrown in. The combination may sound lucrative to the uninitiated, but tech reviewers have never gone rave in their reviews. The M12 is no exception with the phone equipped with a quad-camera setup: a 48MP primary camera, a 5 MP ultrawide camera, a 2 MP depth camera and a 2MP macro sensor. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, we will have to wait for tech reviewers to tell us whether the cameras are really that good or they are just numbers to lure and trap Indian consumers.
