Did you know, popular reality-show Shark Tank India’s judges were auditioned! Moreover, the auditions were held at none other than Ashneer Grover’s place! The revelations were made by current Shark Tank India 2 judge Namita Thapar and former judge Ashneer Grover in two separate interviews. While Thapar’s interview was fairly recent, Grover’s insight on audition being held at his place surfaced back in 2022.
The second season of Shark Tank recently concluded with fanfare, with many netizens going back for another rewatch of the show. Vineeta Singh, founder of SUGAR cosmetics gave an interview to an entertainment daily about some interesting behind-the-scenes insights.
Singh revealed that not many people know this, but the Sharks actually had to audition for the show. But once they were selected, they were told to just be themselves and evaluate the businesses genuinely as investors.
When asked which Shark she gets along with the most, Singh was quick to say that she has a great relationship with all of her co-judges both on and off set. “I learn a lot from each one of them and I am happy to be working with them on pitches over 50 episodes,” she said.
Earlier in 2022, Ashneer Grover had said that the showrunners could not afford a place to do auditions, and he had opened the doors to his home for it.

But did you know that the judges from the show were not selected randomly, but were made to give auditions? The surprising revelation came during an interview given by Namita Thapar. Thapar not only gave an insight about the process of auditioning, but also how she got along with fellow sharks, and her journey in the “tank” so far.
“Not many people know this, but we (the Sharks) auditioned for the show. The good thing about Shark Tank is, unlike any other thing that comes on television, we have to be ourselves. The only guidance we got from the showrunners was, ‘You just have to be there, be yourself, and evaluate these businesses genuinely as investors’,” she was quoted saying.

“When the show team reached out, they got us a mock pitch where they said, ‘Here are the cameras and this is the pitch. Let us do a personal audition, where you just be yourself and react as you would to any other pitch. The rest, as they say, is history,” she had added.

Learned So Much From Them: Namita Thapar
Namita also revealed that it was exciting for her and her husband, Kaushik Mukherjee, to pitch their own brand story in front of the accomplished panel of sharks. “Additionally, I have had the best time shooting with my fellow Sharks and learned so much from all of them,” she added.
Earlier in 2022, in a lecture at a university, former Shark Tank India judge Ashneer Grover had said that the showrunners did not have enough money for a place to hold auditions for judges. While joking about it, Grover said that he opened the doors to his home and the auditions were held there.
“Shark Tank ke auditions bhi mere ghar par hote the, bade gareeb log hain, unke paas venue bhi nahi hai,” Grover was quoted saying.
