Recently, Shark Tank India’s judge Anupam Mittal ripped into the ‘Blue Tea’ pitchers, going as far as saying “hum log yaha tamasha karne nahi baithe hai”. While Mittal has a reputation of being the one of the most diplomatic pitchers who rarely criticizes a pitcher by using harsh words, this was one of the rare occasions where Mittal lost his calm on the Shark Tank Season 2 stage. The shark was listening to a pitch by herbal tea brand entrepreneurs Nitesh Singh and Sunil Saha.

Anupam Mittal, the founder of People Group, and the face behind Shaadi.com, often take jests at his fellow judges for their critical comments about a pitcher or their brand. However, recently, the Shark Tank India judge chose to take matters in his own hand, when two entrepreneurs’ claims about their brand remained dubious.

On the show, Nitesh Singh and Sunil Saha had come to demonstrate their herbal tea brand “Blue Tea”, and claimed that it was one of the world’s first such brand. However, Mittal remained unimpressed, and said that there are several such options available in market.

“You said you’re the world’s first blue tea brand and I don’t agree with that. I have spent a few years in America and I’ve had a lot of blue tea,” Mittal was quoted in an Indian Express report.

The Facts of the Matter

Shark Tank India‘s second season has divided the netizens. While some still continue to remain fans of the show for its educational and insightful content, others have criticised it for being overly dramatic, like many other Indian reality shows.

Recently, another dramatic moment unfolded in the show when show’s judge Anupam Mittal ripped into two entrepreneurs and their herbal tea brand ‘Blue Tea’. The People Group founder falsified the pitchers’ claim about their brand being the only blue tea brand in the world, and further asked them to not spread misinformation.

Blue Tea Pitchers Get Slammed by Anupam Mittal

The entrepreneurs in question, Nitesh Singh and Sunil Saha, asked for Rs 75 lakhs for 1% of equity with an evaluation that stood at 75 crores. After hearing the pitchers’ business idea and brand, Anupam Mittal slammed them.

“You made a very big claim but is not true. You said you’re the world’s first blue tea brand and I don’t agree with that. I have spent a few years in America and I’ve had a lot of blue tea,” he said. “Branded blue tea is available in abundance. Then how did you make the claim? You are doing gimmickry that’s why I am calling you up,” he added.

“Ye tigdam mat karo”

However, the pitchers remained unbadged, and likened their business to Anupam’s matrimonial platform Shaadi.com. “Sir, shaadiyan pehle bhi ho rahi thi, par jis tarah aapne usko brand kiya (weddings used to happen before, but how you made them a brand),” Sunil Saha said.

To this, Anupam replied with, “Bhai, ye sab tigdam mat karo (don’t do this reeling and squealing)”.

Aman Gupta Asks Pitchers to Not Act Over Smart

The pitchers also failed to impress Aman Gupta. When Gupta, boAt co founder asked why they have not spent enough resources on marketing, the pitchers said that this was the reason they made their way to Shark Tank.

This irked Gupta who said, “Bhai tum log smart ho, over smart mat bano (You guys are smart, but don’t play over smart).”

“Tamasha karne nahi baithe hain”

Anupam Mittal put the last nail to the matter and said, Of course, do a good pitch but along with that answer our questions in short. Hum logg khaali tamasha karne nahi baithe hai yaha, (we are not here for the thrill of it).”

Other Sharks too remained critical of the pitchers, not being able to trust the brand or their vision. However, the pitchers asked Aman to get on board, and finally, the deal ended with them getting Rs 50 lakhs for 3% equity, Rs 25 lakhs debt with a whopping 12% interest.
