Lal Bahadur Shastri, the forgotten hero of India, shares his birthday with one of the most globally recognized personalities, Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi himself. Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji was the 2nd Prime Minister of India succeeding Jawahar Lal Nehru. He was born on 2nd October 1904.
On 2nd October 2019, the country will celebrate 149th Gandhi Jayanti & 113th Shashtri Jayanti. On this auspicious occasion, the country will remember the former Prime Minister of India with the launch of a new book which highlights Shastri Ji’s career as a politician and a leader.
Shastri Ji was one of the most vital personnel who played a notable role in getting India freedom from British Rule. However, the modern generation has somehow forgotten about the unsung hero.
Shastri Ji died in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in Russia on 11th January 1966. As per the official reports, he died of a heart attack. However, it is a controversy that he was poisoned to death by Jan Mohommad who was the personal cook of TN Kaul, the Indian ambassador to Moscow. However, there have been no clear pieces of evidence or reports in this regard even after 52 years of him resting in peace. Although Shastri Ji could play his role as the 2nd Prime Minister of India for merely 19 months, his role as a Prime Minister is widely recognized amongst Indian government & in Indian history. During his tenure as a PM, he worked for the betterment of all sections of the society and played a significant role in solving controversial problems of the country.
He gave the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ which inspired the country a lot. The Slogan translates to ‘Hail Farmer, Hail Soldier’. He told that we can eat food daily because the Kisan (Farmer) grows it. And we can eat food ‘peacefully’ because Jawan (Soldiers) are on the lines/borders, protecting the nation. His thought was impressive and are praised by the whole nation, to date.
On the occasion of the 113th birth anniversary of the Lal Bahadur Shastri, a new book is to be launched on Wednesday, 2nd October 2019.
