The Facts of the Matter

On September 7, Indian opening specialist Shikhar Dhawan and his wife Ayesha Mukherjee too confirmed their divorce. The couple stayed married for 8 years, having married back in October 2012. In the 8 years of their marriage, the couple also raised their 8-year-old son Zoravar.

“Thought Divorce Was a Dirty Word Until”: Ayesha Mukherjee

Putting speculations at rest, Ayesha Mukherjee took to Instagram to pen a heartfelt message on her thoughts about her marriage ending. “I thought divorce was a dirty word, until I became a 2 time divorcee,” the ex-wife of the Indian opener wrote. Mukherjee further wrote how scared she was the first time she got divorced, and that she felt like she had failed and “was doing something so wrong at that time.”

She further wrote how after going through the process of contemplation she felt fine and noticed that her fear regarding the divorce had “totally disappeared”. “The remarkable thing is I actually felt much more empowered. I realized my fear and the meaning I gave to the word divorce was my own doing,” she added.

“Divorce Means…” 2-time Divorcee Ayesha Pens Down Her Thoughts

She then went on to add what divorce now means to her. “Divorce means I have had amazing relationships that have taught me great lessons to carry forward in new relationships. ️Divorce means I am stronger and more resilient than I ever thought. Divorce really means whatever meaning you give to it,” she wrote.

As fate would have it, Dhawan and Mukherjee’s relationship found the light of the day thanks to Facebook. Once, the cricketer was checking out his Facebook when he found Ayesha’s profile. The cricketer was lovestruck then and there. He also realized that veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh was a mutual friend that both Dhawan and Mukherjee shared.

The Engagement and the Marriage Postponement

Soon, the couple started dating, and the rest is as they say, history. The couple had to convince their parents for the marriage. In 2009, the couple finally got engaged. But instead of getting married at that juncture, Dhawan postponed the marriage. His idea was to first create an identity for himself in the Indian cricket team.
