While the case does stand out due to its horrific details, it’s not the first time the nation was rocked by such a ghastly case. From the 1968 Mumbai bludgeoning case which was also the inspiration for Anurag Kashyap’s Raman Raghav 2.0, to spine-chilling Nithari Killings, cases of man turning into a beast have come to the fore often.

The horrifying murder of 27-year-old Priyanka shocked the nation earlier this nation. The story had ingredients of a heart-stopping web series or film. However, truth is stranger than fiction. What started as a love story of two star-crossed lovers, ended in a tragedy.

On Monday, the story of a Delhi-based woman being chopped into 35 pieces by her lover was all over the news. As the hours progressed, more chilling details emerged in the case. The accused, identified as Aaftab Poonawala lived with 27-year-old Shraddha Walkar. The two had eloped due to their family’s disapproval over their relationship.

The couple were in a toxic relationship, which ended with Aaftab strangling Shraddha to death, and then chopping her into 35 pieces. He then brought a refrigerator, and stored the pieces. Over the next 16 days, he disposed the body in various corners of Delhi.

The chilling and jaw-dropping details that have emerged after the arrest of Aaftab Poonawala for the murder of his live-in partner Shraddha has reminded citizens of similar such cases. While the Shradha Walker murder case is in itself a harrowing story of a 27-year-old woman losing her life by being in a toxic relationship, it is certainly not the first time the nation has been rocked to its core by such a case.

The unidentified killer used to crush the victims’ heads with stones weighing as much as 30 kg. As the victims often used to be desolate, many of them remained unidentified.

Accused – Maria Susairaj, Lieutenant Emile Jerome Mathew

A television executive, Neeraj Grover was helping Maria Susairaj, a new South Indian actress, gain some prominence in the industry. Susairaj was engaged to Lieutenant Emile Jerome Mathew. On May 7, 2008, Neeraj and Matthew had a physical tussle, where in a fit of rage, Matthew stabbed Neeraj to death. He later chopped Neeraj’s body into multiple pieces and then burnt to destroy evidences.

Accused – Chandrakant Jha

Jha was recently in the news cycle after Netflix’s docu-series ‘Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi’ focused on his life and crimes. Known for befriending migrant workers, Jha used to have meals with them, and then kill them. Moreover, he used to taunt the cops by disposing the body stuffed in bags at police station.
